Windows Media Player version?

How does one go about finding which version of media player one is running? I used to know these things but one's memory is very volatile these days,I am running a early version of Win XP Pro with SP3,one suspects it is Media Player 9.

Go to the short cut either on the desk top or in the programs list at the start menu, right click on it, select properties, select the shortcut tab and click on the 'open file location' button, right click on wmplayer.exe and select properties, then click on the 'details' tab and it will tell you there. Mine's ver 12.0.7601.17514

Alternatively, click on the top bar, then Help, then About.

I changed from 10 to 11 a while back, didn't like 11 and changed back via system restore (only way to go back).

Method 1: Uninstall Windows Media Player in safe mode for XP

Start the computer in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:
Restart the computer.
Press F8 while the computer is restarting.
Click Safe Mode, and the press ENTER.
Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
Click Windows Media Player 11, and then click Remove.
Follow the prompts to uninstall Windows Media Player 11, and then restart the computer when you are prompted.

If Windows Media Player 11 is not removed, try Method 2.

Method 2: Run a program to remove Windows Media Player.

If Method 1 does not work, you can use this procedure to uninstall the core of Windows Media Player.
Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\$ntUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spuninst.exe, and then click OK.
Click Next, and then click Finish.

Thank you chaps,summat strange, I didn't appear to have windows media player,I use VCL media player,anyway I must have had the buggah somewhere but I could not find it,only Windows Movie Maker,anyway.downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 10.
The reason I asked is I download the new version of google earth and somewhere in the blub it said window player 10 needed for it,anyway it runs fine and ran fine before the upgrade so perhaps I already had winMP 10.
