SAC Craig Richardson of 1 Sqn RAF Regt has been selected to carry the FA Cup at the Cup Final on Sat 14 May 11. He had his lower right leg amputated following an IED strike in Afghanistan in Oct 08. He also suffered serious injuries to his right arm and shoulder affecting mobility, as well as hearing damage. He has since returned to full duties (albeit still undergoing physiotherapy) with 1 Sqn.

The year prior to his injuries in Afghanistan, after less than a year since completing his Trainee Gunner Course in Sep 06, he was involved intimately in the Al Waki incident in Basra in 2007 in which LAC Beard was killed in action and Cpl Hayden earned his MC (his Flt suffered four KIA during that tour). Since sustaining his injuries, he has completed the arduous FA Level 1 Coaching Course where his performance was described as ‘inspirational’.

Well done Craig!

Craig you are indeed A Rock. I hope lady luck will guide those as yet unknown hands that can open the doors to all the oportunities you wish for yourself. Have a cracking day. And lets hear it for the medics who have got him going again. Keep rising above the rest Craig. Bloody marvellous. :ok:
