Word on the local village grapevine is relocation of a rotary unit to....Waterbeach!

Can't see any logic in this - anyone able to confirm that this is about as likely to happen as Waterbeach being home base for HMS QE??

Yes, it's true. Part of the MOD's contingency plan for global warming is to relocate all the units from Wattisham further inland, to escape sea level rise. A further aspiration is to combine the Wattisham SAR Flt and SAR Force HQ/OCU at Waterbeach when Valley closes and all remaining FJ training moves to Linton.

Top name for an SAR base!

Will it also be the base for the Fenland MRT? ;)

I'll take your replies as a "maybe" then:)

The global warming argument for Waterbeach does make sense; after all Waterbeach has the highest elevation of any ex RAF station with in a 4 mile radius of Waterbeach.

Some years we don't even flood.

Lovely area, close to a quality town, handy for London....No chance.
It'll be Binbrook or Saxa Vord first.

And then we could move Multi Engine training training there (when we refurbish one Varsity - that should be sufficient for the next few year's requirements).
Oh - and rebuild Oakington!

Oh - and rebuild Oakington!

Be quick then, there is a plan for a new town (Northstowe) on the site.

The sea level is rising at 2 inches a century so why waste money shifting bases when the Green Hysterical MOD has absolutely no proof that sea levels will affect Any RAF base this century?
Proof?

Too late, they've already started pulling the buildings down (despite no sign of Northstowe being built).

relocate them to Merryfield
nice and close to Yeovilton, and even closer to Perry's Cider mill
