Despite the tragedy of the situation Tony's immediate family describe the day as "fantastic". Over 400 people crowded into the GI Chapel. Some couldn't find space upstairs and could only listen to the service from the foyer.

With the expected luminaries in the crowd (you know who I mean!!!) I'm sure he was seen off in fine style. Could not make it myself.

Jeez, Eagle 86, where is the slim, svelte, dark-haired sailor that got me lost on the Hume Highway in 1973?

Sad about Tony, we will be having a beer for him at a 9 Sqn function tomorrow

Tony Hill was a great chap indeed. I looked for info about Geoff Vidal but did not find anything except this thread but don't see anything about him so this link to a series of videos about Geoff's time in Vietnam with No.9 RAAF Squadron whilst he was a new RAN FAA Iroquois pilot perhaps being the youngest helo pilot in Vietnam? Anyhoo: Interviews with Geoff Vidal RAN Mar 13, 2023 | 9SQN, Interviews, Royal Australian Navy

Sadly, we have also lost the thread starter, Eagle 86, Ken Vote, a few months back.

Sadly. KennyBoy with HURL were outstanding RANFAA characters, bringing great joy to all who interacted with them. Ken was able to correspond with me before he died and he liked to tell of his ride in the back of a MIRACLE way back in time. He retold the story in a FLYBY edition I think. I'll have to dig it out.
