Newark NJ(EWR)
Arriving at Terminal A off an internal flight at 05:45am and need to pick up baggage and get to Virgin Desk in Terminal B for UK flight before it closes at 07:00am. Is that possible and does anyone know the locations of baggage hall in A and Virgin desk in B? It's a code share flight would they keep desk open for late inbounds?

Airport web site doesn't advise floor levels for check in etc and I believe the train between terminals is only a 2 minute journey.

If the flight is on time or early you should have a chance, but do bear in mind that Newark can be fogbound at this time of the year in the early mornings.
If you are on one ticket, I wouldn't particularly worry yourself, and prepare that if you don't make it the airline will book you onto the next flight (or put you in a hotel overnight etc).
If it was in Hong Kong, Amsterdam or Heathrow, I would say yes, but in the United States Domestic-International/International-International can be hit and miss.

Assuming it's all on time you *should* be OK.....

We did Cancun - Newark -- Manchester a couple of years ago and it was
tight on a 3hr layover , but that was obviously going via Immigration, although
I must admit they were far more pleasant than Atlanta! And of course we had
to pick up and re-drop bags.

The inter terminal shuttle is VERY quick, however, we did find it's not the best
signposted service in the world! A quick review of the terminal map before arrival
and get an idea roughly where you want to head!

Having never done a domestic flight within the US I'm afraid I've no idea what
you need to allow for in terms of arrival / departure delays.

You're pushing it hard but good luck.
I use Newark a lot. Philadelphia is where I want to get to but KLM don't go there and EWR tickets are much cheaper then JFK.
In my opinion Newark is horrid if you've got baggage and a trolley and are in a hurry. It seems as though you either have to go navigate escalators to get anywhere or fight your way into elevators where I have actually seen fights over queue precedence.
Having said that there have always seem to be attendants around to help with directions. Listen carefully to them and make sure that they understand exactly where you want to go even if you speak good Spanish. Signposts at Newark are like glider contrails so take the previous advice and know the general direction of ground travel before you get there. Airport Map - Airport Guide - Newark Liberty International Airport - Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-airport-map.html)
The train is quick but can be awkward if you have a trolley. In my experience they will not hold the gate for you but will prefer to onload standbys especially since there are no baggage considerations.

Thanks for the feedback, now looking into an earlier internal flight which should take the pressure off.

If you are getting in at 5:45 AM, you shouldn't have ATC delays. But given the ungodly hour, I assume you are on a red-eye from the west coast. You might check the on-time history of this flight. The key variable you have is baggage claim. You will need to go to the lowest level of Terminal A to claim your bags, then go back up to the highest level to get on the AirTrain. From that point, you will be at Terminal B within five minutes, and no more than a further 5 minutes to get to the Virgin check-in.

So I am taking a contrary position. Unless the flight has a dismal on-time history, I think you can make it rather easily. Of course if you have the option of taking a flight that arrives at 5:30 o 5:15, so much the better.
