Me and a mate drove down to Woodford on saturday 30th April with the knowledge we had read because its closing down we could get a tour mainly because we wanted to get the stored stuff there. We parked in the garden centre carpark and walked to the white gates and the security guard was rude 3 times we tried again. He threatened the rozzers on us in the end we left.

My question is what is actually stored there. We knew there was 3 ATP's stored but was wondering what the other stored aircraft are

The only two aircraft left are Vulcan XM603 and RJX G-ORJX; neither of them long for this world. The site is still under BAE/MOD governance and nobody will be allowed on site without prior permission.
I hope you didn't drive far.

Only took us 23 minutes to get there. We got there at 0930 hung around till 1130 then buggered off to chester to catch the beluga but it turned out the time it took us at woodford we missed the beluga at Hawarden. why we stayed so long at Woodford for one reason my mates Ford Focus RS broke down and we had to wait for the AA to come out and fix it. We would have left an hour earlier to get the beluga vut you cant plan for every eventuality

I am amazed that you even thought you had a chance of a tour round just because the place was closing down, still, takes all sorts I suppose!

You turned up at a military facility where they just scrapped a billion pounds worth of kit and asked to be allowed in? :ugh: I'm not sure why they only threatened to phone the Police...

Five minutes on google woulf tell you that you can't see anything from the main gate. The golf club nearby gives good views of the RJX and the Vulcan but that's it.

I'm not sure you'll get a good view of the RJX any more. It has been moved to the area between hangars 3A and 5 where the Nimrods were scrapped.

You hung around for 2 hours! I'm not surprised security were rude.

There was a big closing down sale of all the tooling etc and the opportunity to view the items and collect on set dates, wonder if that was where the mix up came.

The Antique Boardroom table and chairs went for £600.... Not a lot of money when one considers there were 20 plus chairs and with all the leaves in the table extended to 10 metres in length....... you read that right, 10 metres!!!!

The RJX is to be used as part of a simulator facility on the airfield but not owned by BAe and as such is to be cut down to nose section only

I heard its being moved not sure where but as a complete airframe, its already been dismantled pictures are here (http://www.edendale.co.uk/ANW/WFD.RJX.2.html)

JimmyTAP

Well, it clearly isn't moving as a complete airframe.

I know exactly where it's going, I'm just wondering where Ian B got his erroneous information from and then posting it as fact.

BTW where are BAe systems gonna move there aircraft to since there based there using i think the 146's as crew shuttles
From Jethros
Although BAe Systems do operate scheduled services under their own AOC, these services are for company employees only
when Woodford closes down where would they move there ops to

JimmyTAP

BAE hasn't had 146s based at Woodford as shuttles ever. Corporate air travel are based at Warton. The Jetstream/ATP/748 shuttles between Woodford, Hatfield and Prestwick stopped many years ago.

Ever tried getting a complete aircraft down the M6 on a low loader complete with wings

JimmyTAP

No, but I wasn't the one that said it was being moved as a complete airframe was I?
Anyway, it's leaving Woodford tonight.... in several large sections.

Only the Vulcan left now and it will be next.

whats this then BAe Systems (http://www.jethros.eu/fleets/fleet_listings/bae_systems.htm) clearly says based Woodford

JimmyTAP

Corporate air travel are based at WARTON . The website you linked to is WRONG.

There are no aircraft at Woodford apart from Vulcan XM603. That's all.

manccowboy

I thought there were some privates based there?

JimmyTAP
8th Jun 2011, 07:26
There haven't been private aircraft based at Woodford for a few years now.

For admin purposes perhaps (and bear in mind the site you linked to is an enthusiast site, not official); but not for actual flight operations. In fact their ATC is only part time now (2 days a week from what I've heard).

JimmyTAP

There is pretty much nothing left here. Corporate Air Travel are registered at Warton and operate from Warton.

whats this then BAe Systems clearly says based Woodford

Might it be "wrong"?

J31 MAN
9th Jun 2011, 19:03
It is 100% wrong. There is nothing based at Woodford, and hasn't been for years.

Indeed, it just seems that some have difficulty accepting that fact even when the information comes from those who work there.
