A buddy at AA did a CATIII into JFK Thursday night and heard a Virgin 747 divert - unable CATII -III. Is that representative of the whole Virgin fleet or just an equipement/high mins deal?

If it was a 747 (Classic) they're not CAT III equipped. If it was a 744 they may have been restricted by equipment unserviceability or LVO recency?

We were operating into JFK on a woolly pully A340 on Thursday evening when the runways were changed to allow LVO equipped A/C to make approaches. We got in fine although it was a bit of a pea souper! All the A340 fleet are CATIIIb capable for your info.

Classics operate to Cat II, A340s and 747-400s Cat IIIb. The RVRs on thursday at JFK were often around the 1000'/1000'/1000' mark. Below Cat II but, it may have been below Cat II when the Classic pitched up. The weather was fairly nasty all day apparently.
