Both airlines have small domestic markets
Both airlines are "end of the line' carriers.
Qantas has prominent safety issues.Air NZ appears stable in that regard
Qantas employees largley disengaged.Air NZ largely engaged.
Qantas International has been faltering for years.
After poor managment Air Nz has been resurrected and is powering along.
The fundamental difference ?

10 to 20 years ago you could have reversed that list.

I remember about 20 years ago talking with a QF crew in Asia, they told us 'Kiwis" we were about 10 years behind them in terms of company direction and industrial climate. We shook our heads, rolled our eyes and agree amongst ourselves that sooner or later reality would bite for these Aussies.

As the list suggests there are many parrallels between the two Companies. Qantas pilots could learn a lot from Air NZ's recent history, but I appreciate they feel they have little to learn form the NZ'ers or others.

QF still have a way to go before hitting the wall. But regardless a fate similar to Air NZ is in-store for them.... its inevitable.

And if qantas had been sold off it would have scored on the Government Bailout as well.
But at least all the directors were well compensated for their incompetence.....

Perhaps in the lands down under only Governments can run airlines.
Perhaps we just dont have the managerial expertise necessary.
Rob Fyfe is a one off.Who else running an airline in Australia or En Zed even comes close?.Borghetti comes to mind but he is going to be occupied for a long time.
Nationalize Qantas and bring in James Hogan and you may get a good result.
Clearly Joyce and Clifford can't cut the mustard
