i just completed my first set of training on the codeco system this morning :{ i do not know how i am ever going to get the hang of it, im just so scared of getting something wrong because everyone else seemed to be getting along fine!
i am in again tomorrow for the rest of the computer training and then the rest of the week i am shadowing. Does this mean i watch someone in their duties or do they watch me? i just kinda want to know what im goin to be doing for the rest of the week :)

Shadowing means that you start by watching someone else, then you take over and they watch you.

Don't worry too much about the computer system. It is very daunting when you are sat in the classroom, but it all makes a lot more sense when you actually start doing the job.

In a couple of months you will be wondering what all the fuss was about:ok:

Ok brilliant its just we were out in the check in halls today and faced with a lot of scenarios and it all just felt a bit daunting but im sure il get the hand of it somehow!

When I first started using Codeco for dispatch it was an absolute nightmare and I thought I was never going to get the hang of it. After a few flights though you'll soon start to pick up the codes (although admittedly dispatch and check-in codes are completely different) and things will start to fit together for you. I found it easier to write myself a list of all the useful codes I was going to need as the training handouts had pages of stuff that wasn't really relevant, although I still carry that round with me to this day just incase (there's been plenty of times where E*GD has saved me a drive back to the office for a gendec :E).

I think everyone hates Codeco at first but you'll soon discover it's probably one of the best pieces of software out there.

lol 750xl, love is a very very strong term! yeah im just going to write out a notebook of all the main terms i think i'll need its just i think ill find it hard to cope with someone stood in front of me impatiently but i guess it will all come in time :)

Just take your time and don't do anything unless you feel comfortable doing so. I'm sure the passenger would rather wait an extra few minutes at the check-in desk than end up having to be seat changed at the gate because you've sat a family or 4 spread over 32 rows by mistake :}

Codeco system is going completely (all stations) soon I think... Saying that Codeco is a brilliant system once you know it! :)

its getting to know it which seems to be the problem!!But they've told us that we are allowed a notebook with all the most important codes etc and that some people who have been there for years still have them so that doesnt make me feel so stupid :} lol

That's a good thing to do. get yourself a small notebook and jot all the codes and entries you need to know and always keep it on you! Even for boarding, as you may well be boarding with codeco.

While shadowing, ask the check-in agent you are shadowing to check all your codes out and ask them to add any important ones you have missed.

Really Codeco is an easy system once you get into the swing of it. Just give it time :cool:

thanks kazzie, thats a really good suggestion because i guess the person im shadowing will be in the best position to know what codes are being dealt with most regularly and stuff :)

Ref all the previous replies, it's all about practice. One day, it will just click!

CODECO is pretty straight forward, once you get your head round it....
I was learning shares Continental shares system, last year, and that was a two-week residential course in LGW....Now that WAS involved ! And that took a fair bit of shadowing once we were back on base.....if you ever get chance to work with Continental/United, then take it, cos if you can master their SHARES system, then you can master anything !

Make sure you ask lots of questions while you're watching, if something doesn't make sense, ask! I also second that once you are sat DOING check in, it's so much easier than learning in the classroom so relax, it's all about to start falling into place!

Don't be afraid to jump in and start checking in, try and do at least one on your first day... seriously, the first is your hardest and it all gets easier from there, get stuck in! Also, while you're shadowing is the time to make a mistake - if your shadower is any good they will pick up on it before it's made, and if they don't it's their responsibility and not yours. Sounds harsh but it'll all make you a better agent.

Good luck and enjoy it! You really will wonder soon what you were worrying about :-)

thanks so much for everyones supportive comments, i start my first day of shadwing today.....eeeekkk!!so hopefully after the next few days il feel a lot more comfortable!i just want to get my uniform and stuff now because i feel like and probably stick out like a sore thumb lol!!:)

omg kazzie i really dont want to go back :{ they threw me in at the deep end checking in a thomas cook flight to dalman and we had only been trained to check in jet2.com domestic flights and the woman i was shadowing was really rude and was like thats the second time u failed to ask those security questions, i just paniced!!!!i dont know what to do, i just feel so out of my depth! and do you get paid any extra on a temporay contract for working after 11 at night like in some other places? im assuming not lol! but my first day did not go well at all, dreading tomorow in fact :( xx

Hmm... Not ideal!

If you don't feel ready, then talk to your trainer and ask for more support, Throwing you in at the deep end can work sometimes, It's not ideal no, and it doesn't always work. But would deffinently recommend talking to your trainer if you don't feel ready and pressured.

Have you been trained on the TCX product at all? and if memory serves, Security questions are not even mandatory anymore (though I think its on airlines discretion). But don't worry, EVERYONE forgets to ask the questions at some point.

The staff member who gave you a hard time. yes was a bit out of order I think, I bet they forgot things themselves when they started. They seem to forget that though. But again, Dont take it personal. Check-in can be stressful and it can impact on how people react. Especially when you have a time limit etc...

As for night shift stuff, Check your contract, I don't think you get any extra shift pay until you have a permanent contract. You contract should state what additional pay you are entitled to, if in doubt ask the admin team.

c thats the thing they didnt even give me a copy of the contract and i didnt get a chance to read it, but im not a quitter!!i'll be fine, tomorrows a new day, ive written out new notes so hopefully they will help!!

You have to remain positive.. The airport is not an easy place to work! Though I'm a very Positive person and love my job anyway ;)

second day of shadowing today, a six hour shift, i think i am going to be checking in a jet2 leeds bradford flight which was the scenario in our trainig so hopefully today will go a lot better! im determined to make a sucess of this if it kills me lol :) xx

I'm sure you'll do great! This does take some time getting used to, it does for everyone, especially if you have no prior DCS experience.

Codeco was my second DCS system, I started out with Swift2Check, and Amadeus system. You can either use native or GUI, while in Codeco you can only use native (codes instead of clicking things, basically). But once you get the hang of it, Codeco is great! Also, if you know Codeco, a transition to any other DCS system using native commands will be so much easier - Codeco is like the grandmother of DCS's.

As a user moving from another system to Codeco, my primary tip is this:

Make sure you use the correct list number when making any edits to a passenger!

In S2C, once you pull up a passengers full record, that pap always becomes #1. So anything you want to do with the pap, you preface it by 1/.

But in Codeco, the passenger keeps the list number from the previous displayed list. So if he was #23 on the list, you access the full record and want to do anything, you need to start with 23/.

Sounds very simple and obvious when you're used to it, but when you're used to the pap ALWAYS being #1, you do it automatically, and boy you can screw up all sorts of things then! :)

A last tip, for now - use the help function: @h

You can teach yourself a lot of commands that noone ever told you about during training that way. Gets you a better understanding of the system and who knows, this might make you the only one at work that knows the perfect command to solve a problem!
