Hey guys,

Im currently nearing my first year at uni, Next year I have to look for a placement for 6 month in the industry. By the way im studying Airport and Airline Management. Its hard looking for a placement. Im looking at Southwest in the USA or Jet2 in the UK. I have applied to Jet2 twice before uni and got turned down in the first part of the recruitment selection. The question im asking who is the best company to work for on a placement, Im not willing to work for Ryanair. also have any of you on this board been a placement and what is it like,

I dont want to be the only one in the class to work in Tesco or something.

Thanks

I think the best bet would be trying to do a season with a ground handler, Swissport, Servisair, Menzies etc.

Im not sure airlines do six month placements as such?.

Hi David,

Are you on 'Linked In' ? Have you tried using it as a tool in your quest?

Sign up for that and build your personal profile with a good, solid statement of who you are and what you are about.

Then go searching for Airline / Airport senior managers, you don't have to search for them by name, just by company and their names will come up if they are also 'Linked In' users. You then make contact with them and tell them what you are trying to achieve.

Some of course will not reply but alot will and I would be surprised if this does not lead to something positive.

It's all about contacts. Can't your Uni help at all??

Best of Luck.

When you say SouthWest Airlines are you talking about the low cost carrier based in the US? If you're looking for a slot with them then I am assuming that you have a work permit or visa sorted out?

Best...

Well im not due to go to on the placement till april next year, so i would apply for the visa in september this year and contact Southwest USA to get in there. If i cant get in southwest then I can try places like Jet2

I'd just try and get into any airline to be honest, rather than being picky about which one :)
