My Grandfather just recently passed away and we're currently in the process of organizing the funeral.
His passion throughout life was his music, and his flying. He was a WW2 Veteran, his squadron being, "bomber command 52 squadron".
I'm currently trying to get in contact with anyone, or any organization, that deals with the historical squadrons to see if it would be possible to get 52 squadrons emblem to cover the coffin during the ceremony, or anything else in fact.
If you've any suggestions I'd be most grateful.
Many thanks,
F

Felix

Condolences on your loss, when my father passed away and we wanted to use the badge we were advised to contact either the commanding officer if the squadron is still active or the MOD if not for permission

My condolences to you and your family. However, are you sure you've got the right squadron number?

52 was not a Bomber Command Sqn (50 & 51 were). You will see from the summary history that the sqn was in the Middle East/Italy before going out east and converting to a transport sqn in Burma and elsewhere. Whilst the Baltimore and Blenheims were medium/light bombers, the sqn did not operate in or from UK, save for a few months with the Battle until Apr '40.

May I respectfully suggest that you look at any records/memorabilia that you have belonging to your grandfather - including his war service medals or any recollections that the family have as to where he was posted. These might prove/disprove the squadron on which he served and for which he had such affection.

Many thanks for the respectful replies chaps. I believe this was his squadron: RAF History - Bomber Command 60th Anniversary (http://www.raf.mod.uk/bombercommand/h52.html)
Still no luck in contacting anyone though.
