I believe there is a mass exodus out of VB ground ops under way. Don't know if voluntary or being pushed.

Are they all being recruited by QF?

a mass exodus from VB would then mean a mass exodus from Aeroscare :}

Wouldn't be suprised given the fact that the current EBA for new VBPC post March 2010 is around $16.50 an hour. Looks like they are going to run courses month in month out due to the massive turnover. Pay peanuts you get monkeys. And they wonder why their OTP has gone to S...

I went to an Aerocare info session in December. They offer a 3 hour call, split shifts 24/7, and a 20 hour a week guarantee for casuals. First 3 months casual on call, thence perm casual.

Wages (from memory) $21 - $25 hour; only time penalties happen is public holiday.

The presenter was a manager (Sydney) and he sexed up the opportunites - you could become a tug driver! Or even go work interstate!

It was a shock to me how poor the T & C are at AeroCare, and I would guess they have solid turnover. There were uni students at the info session, and they were told they could apply as well.

Head Office? If that were true, then maybe Il Duce is sick and tired of the incompetents previously employed. Head Office and Aerocare have no relationship other than outports. So, which is it then?

Sounds like the wrong people resigning. Should be lower level managers/specialists, mid level managers/specialists, top level managers/specialists, in fact anybody with the title of manager or specialist and who has a Linkedin account boasting of MBA's and other fluffed up credentials should be out the door. At least the place would return to making a profit, however 90% of staff would be gone !!

What are VB contracted ports these days? Just MEL/SYD/BNE?

Plus ADL, why ADL is I will never know, 20 flights a day pfffttt PER and OOL would do nearly that many.

AerodoesntCare

Worked for this mob for a month after the Ansett collapse and that was enough. They have a high attrition rate, due in my opinion to the fact that there is a constant flow of people looking to get a start in the aviation world, who then quickly realise that that financially they are better off out of it!! AC and all the others will only improve their T & Cs when the flow of eager recruits stops, which won't happen anytime soon. It is a simple supply and demand situation and it works for all aviation businesses because generally any job that has anything to do with aircraft has an "aura" around it, not linked to reality.

In the meantime, collectively and individually, we have to convince business leaders that we are not a "cost" to the business. We are productive assets that can facilitate profits if constructively engaged by a proactive management, we are actually in partnership to a successful future.... not the fr#%ng enemy!!!
The focus to any successful relationship should be unity and respect resulting in symbiotic harmony, BUT modern business plans have no criteria to address these intangibles. We are well into the 21st Century, and it amazes me how we are still locked into this 19th century thinking when it comes to industrial relations, the old Master/servant "we pay your wages" mentality. :ugh:
Am I a lone voice in the wilderness, I think not. :ok:

I think PER and OOL are definitely above 20 a day now.

The problem is this: Aerocare/contractors are much cheaper on paper than mainline employees. Having said that they make a mess in many but not all ports. Some have improved. I think VB goes for the cheaper option with the view of performance managing them into a reasonable output level. The reality though, is that more often than not its a complete disaster (MEL Inl.). The consequences of losing time due to stuff ups on the ground are VERY high fuel flows and many unimpressed passengers. So they might want to rethink this little part of the strategy given that the fuel price is getting quite high.

Hence the title of the thread? It could be a part of the problem I suspect.

ML is a shocker, litter, attitude! and at times no one to meet the aircraft.
