I saw on Eva Air's website they are hiring. Any idea how many pilot they are hiring? What the hiring minimums are to be competitive?

And it mentions about an Anchorage base. Does Eva already have an Anchorage base?

Rgds,

Yesterday I found ad by Direct Personnel for MD11 FO´s. Any idea if it´s better to apply directly to EVA or via Direct Personnel? Thanks.

EVA Air planning to buy 20 planes to meet China demand

AFP, TAIPEI
EVA Airways (長榮航空) plans to buy 20 passenger planes to meet robust demand from China, local media cited company president Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) as saying yesterday. The remarks came after the airline added three Chinese cities — Zhengzhou, Jinan and Ningbo — to boost its total weekly flights to China to 77, covering 17 destinations.
“Our capabilities are still unable to meet the strong demand for flight services between Taiwan and China,” Chang told reporters, according to the state-funded Central News Agency.
“Looking ahead, EVA Air is considering purchasing more narrow-bodied passenger planes, like A321 ... to replace the existing MD planes,” he said, without giving a timeframe.
The company now operates 56 aircraft, including eight McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighters and six MD-90s.

EVA may buy A320 neo maybe? Openings for A320 pilots coming up? Although more A330 is more likely to be most of the 20 planes he speaks about.

edit: This local Taiwanese newspaper seems to think it will be TEN more 77W and 10 to 15 Airbus A321 or B737 (mistyped as B777).

Has anyone interviewed there recently that would like to shed some light on the interview process? Also, is there any expats there at Eva that would shed some light on the QL and what the trips are like?

Taiwan carrier starts to sell air cargo aircraft

David Badger | Wed, 26 Oct 2011

Worst year since I entered the trade, says EVA president

A decline in air cargo shipments from Taiwan will continue into next year, an executive at one of the country’s biggest carriers said today.

EVA Air President Chang Kuo-wei said Q4 was usually the busiest time for air cargo because of the Christmas season in the US and Europe, but he had yet to see any sizable surge in volumes.

"This year has been the worst year since I entered the trade," said Chang.

Reflecting the declining demand for air cargo, he said, EVA Air had already sold two freighters and planned to sell another by the end of the year.

"It is appropriate to get rid of cargo planes because of the economic changes, and the move conforms with actual operations in the market," he said.

He said passenger traffic was holding up, but Chang added that based on past experience, this tended to fall after cargo demand declined for six months.

EVA Air would closely monitor market changes, he said
