I have a contract opportunity in Laos, know very little about the country, any information/experiences would be appreciated.

Still very 3rd world but lots of adventure to be had if you're that type of person ..... lots of backpackers going there for a cheap holiday and cheap beer .... some funny rules and law ... great place to be if you like Dirt Bikes and getting off the beaten track.
Search Laos on youtube you'll get a visual idea for what I mean.
Laid back place, quiet and still has a midnight curfew! Great beer. Some odd food though.
