Just need to check that it is possible to operate a CJ1 on a PPL?

I keep seeing bizjets on M reg - what's the benefit?

Thanks

Yes, it's possible (on some registers) but you will still need a type rating. Type rating checkrides are generally to ATPL standards.

The benefits of the M reg are; sensible rules, fast paperwork and people that you can speak to when you have a problem (who will help to sort it out).

Can be done, Get an FAA licence, it will be less onerous,

Dealing with the IOM is totally straightforward, they're all very helpful.

Whilst it's all possible according to regs I hate to say that I think you insurance underwriter is going to be your big man on this one.

The CJI is designated by EASA as a single-pilot, high performance aeroplane. To commence a type rating course on such an aeroplane you will need at least 200 hours total flight time, including at least 70 hours as PIC, and to have passed either the ATPL exams or to hold a certificate of successful completion of an approved pre-entry course. This is likely to change under EASA when the requirements for individual HPA type ratings will be determined by an Operational Evaluation Board

Thanks everyone.
Hours are not a problem.
Just discovered M reg not available for aircraft, <5700kg.

Below 5700Kg you need an address or connection within the Isle of Man

I know of a CJ1+ that is operated by a PPL holder. Having revalidated his class rating a number of times (and therefore being familiar with his insurance documents) I can confirm that his particular underwriter is happy to insure the aircraft with him as a named pilot.

I would also say that his handling skills and operational knowledge and technique are the equal (in fact better in some cases) of many professional licence holders who I have examined in CJs over the years.

So yes, it is possible, but make sure you get the right training!

The aircraft is easy to fly but the operating environment and performance require a disciplined approach. Pilots who have some commercial experience will (hopefully) have had some discipline instilled into their operational approach by their employers. Some pilots are lucky enough to have this discipline occur naturally, as in the gentleman alluded to above.

Am I missing something here? Surely a PPL holder operating a CJ1 will have to stay clear of cloud at all times?

PPL/IR:O
Otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Yes, the guy I am talking about has a PPL and an IR-ME-SPA.
