3d sphere on website

What would be the best way to put a 3d sphere user controllable on a website I have seen a flash one but also read on here that people dont like flash

The name for this process seems to be texture mapping, so it might be a good idea to google on 'texture mapping software' or 'texture mapping software free download'. Hope this helps.
