Hi all, does anyone know when beyond "end of March"? Would be keen to take the camera down just to see her go. Plenty of time if she's under tow I guess...

Thanks!

There is BTW a rather good looking oil painting of her on a well known auction site by a Captain Rodger Roland Sutton Fisher C.B.E., D.S.C., R.N., R.S.M.A., F.R.S.A. ( 1919-1993) of the Invincible.

Scapping

Will be interesting to see if she makes it after 6 years in 3 basin. Am in Gib till Friday and Gib Sqn plan to pay a tribute as she passes through the Straits. 29 years after the Falklands.

Posting a few pics from my collection on Thursday to mark the passing of a ship that served her Country so well in both war and peace:D

Keep an eye on this thread.

Had a very rewarding 2 weeks on her in the early 80s. A major exercise followed by 3 days in Copenhagen. Almost wished I had joined the Navy......almost.

Wonderful pix, draken, thanks. The last one caused a little beery tear to course its way down the seamed old cheek.....

And I'm a crab (well, ex)

Thanks,

I along with many others helped Invincible store for war in Aoril 82. Sad to see her go. Hail andfarewell.

Navaleye - that must have been a very interesting time. Was there a plan for the war stores, ie a proper war scaling, or was it a case of "well we're supposed to take 5 Pegasus engines, but let's make that 10, just in case".

I can only imagine the amount of beer that got loaded on all the ships!

Didn't have much to do with the aviation side. We were shifting dry stores, mostly bog roll and beans!

My apologies. Should I delete, resize and re-post or just delete after a day as I was intending to do?

We'd rather you didn't, draken55. Either way... thanks.

Well, according to some froggy upstart 'an army marches on its' stomach' :it seems the Admiralty are content to drag their arses !

Bye bye 'vince. Another old ship bites the dust, well I remember (well I don't) tumbling down the stairs and knocking myself unconscious. I awake to such lovely naval-isms as 'one hand for the ship, one hand for yourself'... couldn't you have told me that before I fell down the bloody stairs! (WAFU so they are stairs not gangplanks or ladders of companionways or whatever ;))

Invincible deserves a salute in the form of a flypast.

No Sea Harrier in the Historic Flight ? Can't be the Admiralty embarassed about stupid decisions while sitting on fat pensions, surely ?

Did anyone else spot what appears to be a gash in her hull starboard side, near the waterline. Check the picture in the Daily Mail

For those that did not read Jeremy Black's memoirs in his book "There and back"

He recounts one episode when his ops team called "Torpedo in the water". The contact was confirmed, Invincible went to to full speed to stern the target and evade. 820 Sqn was launched to prosecute the datum. No Result. Make your own minds up.

HMS Invincible is presently just off Sohail Castle, Fuengirola, moving very slowly down the Med.

Have been watching her progress for the last hour or more. Beautiful clear day.
