Hey all. I've always had the flying bug, but have never acted on it. My concern is, can one be too old to start? I can retire from my job with the state of New York in about 6 years, and I'll be about 48ish. While I'll have a the benefit of not worrying about $$ as much (a decent pension kicks in right when I retire), I worry that by the time I put myself through any type of flight training I'd be considered "too old". Any thoughts? Anyone start this late, or perhaps even later? Thanks for your time.

Take a look at:
http://www.pprune.org/professional-pilot-training-includes-ground-studies/445760-career-pilot-starting-1-hour-43-years-old.html

If money is not real issue for you, then I would say go for it.
I have posted replie in other thread, just read there.
Good luck!

I'll be really horrible - you are probably too old to get an airline career. But... You are living in the right country to really enjoy aviation and get something out of it and maybe even earn a crust as well. Get a PPL and see what's going on in the G/A circles. Homebuilding, microlights, autogyro's etc. are all available at reasonable prices and will give you hours of fun.
