Renaming Hyperlinks - Help!

I've had a couple of experienced PPRuNers try assist me in understanding how to rename a hyperlink but, my density seems to have overwhelmed their explanatory skills!

Can anyone provide the 'absolute idiot's guide to renaming hyperlinks'?

If so - I'd be most grateful.

Okay. I'll try! :8

Copy the link that you want to use.

In your post, highlight the word or phrase that you want to hyperlink.

Here, I'll use the phrase 'your post', and the direct link to the above post.

Once it is highlighted by clicking on it and choosing the 'select' option in Mac, or dragging your cursor over it in Windows, then choose the icon of the world with a chain link just at the top of your posting window whilst your chosen word/s are still highlit.

A pop up box will appear. If you have copied the whole link previously, delete the 'http:/' that appears in the box, and then paste your link in that window.

Once you have done that then press the 'OK' or 'Save' button.

Voila - hyperlink is created.

In geek language the finished product will look like this, WITHOUT the full stops within the 'URL' inside the end brackets:

I think what Radar66 is trying to say in more succinct terms is that you need to change the bit inbetween the URL tags .... ie.

*URL="ht....etc.etc* CHANGE ME ! */URL*

So, when you want to change it, you find the previously used word/s such as 'your post' which I've embolded below, and change it.

Which would result in:

The above was my attempt at renaming the link to his thread 'Test' by typing 'Test' into the hyperlink box after highlighting the URL.

As you can see I am a klutz at this!!! :{

What I've understood is:

1. Paste the entire URL (including http.) from the selected website into your post.

2. Highlight this text and hit the Insert Link button which will add the text you highlighted in no. 1 above.

Where then do I locate the text with the space between URL's into which insert the text I want?

Another way to do the same, I find it easier:

Use two tabs, one for your pprune ReplytoThread and one for the page you want to link to.

Type in your message, for example "I love the shape of the Mig-15".

Then go to the other tab and right-click on the url and click on copy.

Back to the reply tab and highlight 'Mig-15' (wipe the cursor over the phrase while holding the click down).

Click on the little world at the top, this will open a box.

In the box right-click and paste. Be careful that you don't have 'http://' twice over.

I love the shape of the Mig-15 (http://migluver.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/mig_15paint.jpg).

As I understand it, you are doing it COMPLETELY the wrong way around. The hyperlink box is ONLY used for the website link, which you paste into the box. You do NOT type any text into the box. Your highlighted text is in your posting window.

May I gently suggest that you re-read the instructional posts above again? ;)

The Helicopter Pilot's Guide to Renaming Weblinks:

1. Type in your post (in the normal area used for writing your messages) the exact text you would like to see appear on your web/hyperlink.

2. Highlight this area with your cursor.

3. Select the Insert Link button.

4. Into the field offered by the Insert Link button paste the URL of the website you wish to link to (first removing [or pasting over] the http characters which initially appear in the hyperlink box).
