Generic apology as I am sure this is a repeat thread, although I can't find the answer clearly anywhere.

If my Class 1 expires, it automatically drops to a Class 2.

If I then revalidate my Class 1 later on, what will the costs be? Will it just be the revalidation cost or will it be considered as a brand new initial examination?

Also, does holding a current Class 2 mean the initial Class 1 examination can be shortened and cost me less?

Apologies for the ignorance :oh:

4015, have you checked here (http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=49&pagetype=90&pageid=526)?

If this doesn't answer your questions, I suggest you ring or e-mail the CAA Medical Department - I have always found them to be helpful.

I did indeed check the website, couldn't find anything which seemed to clarify the situation.

I will give them a call though, thanks for the reply :)

The validity dates for Class 1 and Class 2 are printed (or written) on your medical.

If your Class 1 expires for more than 5 years you need a new initial Class 1.

To renew your Class 1 you need a Class 1 medical with an AME (or the CAA)

What the costs are will depend on what you need (which is age dependent and when you last had particular bits done - ECG/Audiogram etc) and where you go.

Different AMEs charge different amounts.
