Frankfurt is opening a new runway this year. Who's going to get all the new slots? Will LH introduce dozens of new planes to grab them all, or will every other airline in the world grab one each? Will a lo-co move in with a base?

Or is the airport simply going to be constrained by apron capacity until T3 opens, meaning no new flights yet but fewer delays to existing ones?

Possibly a mixture of the above.

Likely, but is there a known policy from Fraport or anyone else?

There is an EU Regulation on slot allocation. All new slots created or otherwise becoming available have to be distributed fairly and transparently, with half of all new slots being made available initially to new entrants (new entrants in this respect may include carriers whose current slots at that airport are below a minimum threshold).

The Regulation would also prevent Lufthansa Group companies from grabbing more than their share too.

Hopefully it will only be used for departures. The thought of them being able to give you any one of 3 runways whilst you are turning base beggars belief in this day and age of safety etc.

No RYR for me

What does this do to the NetJets airport just down the road... Egelsbach?

I believe the new runway is to be for arrivals only:

I believe that is correct, just as r/w 18 is for southerly departures only.

What happens if there is a loading delay and you can't meet your slot time?

There is an EU Regulation on slot allocation.

Anybody told CDG and Orly that ? or do they in their own French way just ignore completely as its not in Air France interests.

Nothing to do with ATC tactical slots issued by CFMU.

This refers to airport capacity slots done on a seasonal basis (IATA Scheduling seasons)

Was under the impression that the arrivals only 4th rwy (07L/25R) opened in 2011. Is it now being used for departures as well?

AFAIK, 18 is only used for departures to the south (as arrivals would conflict with traffic on the parallel rwys) and that 36 is not used for landings (from the south) and cannot be used for departures. Is this correct?

The new runway is described as a landings only runway and the west runway as take-off only

– Runway Center:
4,000 meters long, 60 meters wide
– Runway South:
4,000 meters long, 45 meters wide, plus two 7.5-meterwide shoulders; runway center line separation: 518 meters
between the north and south runways
– Runway West (for takeoffs only):
4,000 meters long, 45 meters wide, plus two 7.5-meterwide shoulders
– Runway Northwest (for landings only):
2,800 meters long, 45 meters wide, plus two 7.5-meterwide shoulders.
