What do you think of the new VB uniforms? I think they are better than the previous ones.http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/thumbs.gif

anything looks better than the "coffee shuttle" uniforms, (standard uniform in PNG circa 1980)

Saw them in the domestic terminal today. I must say, they look very smart. And the cabin crew? Hubba hubba :}

Good work JB, you're the man! :ok:

Does that mean we can expect to see a bunch of former DJ leather flying jackets on eBay now or did they make you guys hand them back in? :E

It looks pretty smart. I think the scarves on the girls are a bit too big and fluffy though. Colour and style OK, just too big.

Will look great- unless you're a woman on the curvier side of a 12/14... (and yes plenty of those at DJ) The scarf is taken off prior to pushback, so yes while it looks a bit silly it won't be getting in the way.

And what's with the grey pants for the male cabin crew? They look like undertakers!!!

Gotta love the generic thunderbird style logo on the pilot caps. Looks like JB picked it up straight out of a show bag :}

I'm sure that there are some crews who are quietly mourning the loss of the old Female CC shirts, replete with straining buttons. :E :(

The logo on the hat is a temporary generic hat logo just until the re-branding, then they will be replaced with the new logo.

I was told that BG was not happy about the pilots getting a new uniform after 10 years of trying for change to no avail. That just makes it all the sweeter.

good riddance I say!

Will miss the old CC shirts but the way the new uniform fits most of the girls makes up for it :)

26th Feb 2011, 08:07
I feel for the female CC though. Material is 100% synthetic, not the nicest in summer. If they look hot and flustered it is not because they like the new flight crew uniform...............

If the hat logo is temporary how are they going to change it, isnt it stitched on?

GAFA
26th Feb 2011, 08:52
Yes it is stitched on but have a close look at the stitching and you can see it's made to be removed.

...Because stitching is soooo hard to undo. I guess they'll have to re-issue new hats. :}

Well thats nothing compared to the Tiger boys and girls. That yellow cotton top with corduroy pants, not good in ports like ASP.

Virgin Global perhaps???

GAFA
26th Feb 2011, 10:35
If that's true then I can see hats going back to get the logo reattached as the stitching is not the best. It was on the display uniform and when asked if that was the final logo the SBP advised it would change once the rebranding was complete.

Ah physco joe glad to see that I wasn't the only one that loved the 'straining buttons' of the old uniform, especially with the girls with a shirt that was just a BIT too small ! Being served by them was like half a peep show !

Ahh memories !

Servo
26th Feb 2011, 21:22
And who do you think they will get to undo the stitching and re stitch 800+ hats psycho joe? The flight Crew?

Half are struggling with ironing their shirt.

My guess it will be a pin type badge that will sit on top of the current "globe".

psycho joe
26th Feb 2011, 22:14
The fashion in which the logo (embroidered Globe and Wreath) is attached to the Virgin caps is exactly the same as the QANTAS caps and the RAAF caps.

So my conclusion is that QANTAS and RAAF will have a logo change any day now. :ok:

Funny thing is that the QF Cabin Crew are also bursting at the buttons but not from a new uniform design !!!

But lets face it, pants of any description are not usually a particularly flattering item on someone of size anyway.

They can be if they're cut properly and in the right fabric (polycotton doesn't come close) but that's a bit expensive for the average uniform issue. What you really need are two different styles; the hip slinging sort up to size ten and the higher sort for twelve and above. That way everyone looks their best.

I like how the female pilots get a female shirt. I know Air New Zealand started that a while ago (in this region anyway) and I think it looks great. In general, the uniform looks pretty good. Of course that's easy to say when you don't have to wear it.

What about all those Pit Crew overalls bursting at the buttons also from all those meat pies and Crownies ?

I dunno, I've always thought Virgin had some pretty cute rampies, although not all by any means... :} I know at east one smaller GHC used to wear hi-vis vests with no shirt at all when it was hot. I wasn't complaining but apparently it was deemed 'not appropriate'.

I thought we were talking about uniforms not penises !!!

We've previously discussed the crazy Ukraine Antonov crews that used to blow into Brisbane...at least one of them used to stroll out of the AN-12 on the ITB ramp in his jocks, head over to the emergency shower and lather up in full view of the aircraft boarding on the next gate. A scary, scary sight.

Personally I could care less about airlines re-branding with uniforms and what not. I'd rather they just got the basics right like scheduling within their resources so I don't have to wait every morning for boarding because of delays.

But keeping with the topic, hats on pilots? Some love 'em and some hate 'em. The mob I work for has both types but if you are not a fan of the big-spiffing-look-at-my-shiny-new-lid then read on:

step 1 - rip out plastic circular collar from top of hat
step 2 - once over the tyre with family car in the driveway
step 3 - short cycle but rapid spin at 30 degrees (not 40) and repeat
step 4 - rubber band the diameter sideways and leave to dry (this will change said cap from 'russian military issue' to somewhere between the baggy green and those cool german U-boat commanders style)

I personally guarantee this more weathered head garb will make members of the opposite sex look twice and it will only autheticate and legitimise your 15,000 hour swagger through the terminal.

Best of all I don't charge for this.

The hat badge looks remarkably like the one on an old family friend's (German) East German Police hat. Only in the middle of the circle there is some kind of devider or compass or some such communist garb.

The female pilots should get a choice of a tie or a scarf, a lot of girls don't like the scarf.

VBA Engineer
9th Mar 2011, 12:07
Some of the guys need a little more attention to their ties, a loose floppy tie looks much worse than an open neck shirt.

Also, have the girls grooming standards been revised too? I see a lot more hair buns instead of pony tails.

Please, please, bring back the girls peep show shirts and the pony tails.

virgins lovechild
9th Mar 2011, 21:34
The scarf looks worse, at least a tie would look tidy. ;)

As part of the new grooming regs pony tails are no longer allowed.

At TAA, we used to find running over your new hat by the Fox, or a tractor, gave it a certain sort of panache! So how come in this time of workplace safety, JQ pilots are not given hats? Are they exempt from skin cancer?

Flew Virgin last week and thought the cabin crew uniforms looked exceptional!:ok:

However I think the flight crew uniforms will date quickly. Probably OK for some of the younger crew, but not so good on those who are over forty and enjoy life a little more...;)

Also looks like a few people have forgotten how to tie a decent knot in the last eleven years!:E

GAFA
10th Mar 2011, 09:57
All ties are clip-ons, so all knots should be the same.

Howard Hughes
10th Mar 2011, 10:21
Are you sure? Saw more than one at the gates with loosened tie...

GAFA
10th Mar 2011, 10:47
Sure am, the clip-on tie is not the normal type that clips on over the top button. The DJ ties loop around the neck and clip on the side under the collar and can be adjusted, hence the loose look you may have seen.

10th Mar 2011, 21:04
GAFA sorry you are wrong, some are not clip on I have one.

GAFA

inandout,

Then you must have purchased your own tie, as all company issued ties are clip-on.
