They are both lightly-built pieces of crap that accountants love 'cos they are cheap to run...

Worked for a Q400 operator, they were informed after the sale was complete that the airframes could be delivered on time, but would need to be returned to the factory for three months "re-manufacturing". The reason? In early aircraft, the fuselage was bending between the cockpit windows and the leading edge, as the structure simply wasn't strong enough. New stringers and strengthening required. And why was this happening? Because the design is cut to the bone before manufacture to optimise efficiency. Not strength of durability... just good old bottom-line efficiency.

The ATR is no better, they are both built to a price. Glad I don't have to fly them...
