I'm after help from the Rotorhead community.

I'm looking for a supplier/manufacturer of portable landing lights for use at off-airfield landing sites. Preferrably suppliers in the UK but anywhere in the World will be considered.

Ideally I would like the lights to have a remote operation facility by radio or SMS message if possible but I will look at any and all options.

Thanks in advance.

I've bought 2 lots of Eflare. They are not remotely operated so you need to have someone turn them on, but batteries last at least 12 hours. They fit into rubber stands which are then tent-pegged into ground to make a nice NATO T! I think they're around £200, fit into a little bag and run on D batteries. They flash white/blue and on a clear night I've seen them from 9 miles, but officially they state less.

Using AV70 solar aviation lights from Avlite as backup helipad lighting in case of power failures. On from last light till dawn even after the darkest of winter days. We are quite impressed with these.

You could try Metalite, see here:

or Bauertech for a helicopter GPI:

Thanks everyone.

There have been some very good leads. I will post other systems I have found so there will be something in the Rotorhead archives if someone should have the same enquiry in the future.

I have used CD discs (from Sunday supplements) nailed to the bosses tree in the back garden. See them from a couple of miles when the landing light reflects on them.(doesn't need much light to get a flickering reflection). Its worked for a couple of years although you do need to change them after winter as they do weather.:8

Having looked after the lights at our unit for many years, if you want to mark out the landing/take off run then in terms of simplicity, reliability, cost and maintenance, then I would recommend these:
Dicke Synchroguide Barricad Light (http://dicketool.com/Products/BarricadeLights/Synchroguide/Synchroguide.htm)

Yes, they are what you see on the motorways, but they do the job, provide a nice "running rabbit" and the LED bulb/air alkaline battery combination means that running them 12 hours a day, we only need to change the batteries every 6 months. By far the best solution that we've found.

Made in the UK by Dorman at about £50 each.

Hmmm...60 hour battery life isn't much.
