Just want to get peoples thoughts on Med-air or Medlink contracts.

I tend to think they are a waste of money.

Anyone really had to use them? If so, how was the level of the information passed on? did it help?

GL.

Have them, but never used them either......expensive true, but so is the catering onboard, and that wont save your life potentially........

I would rather spend the money on a good course for the FA. The approx $6000 a year that Medlink charge, even half of that would put her through a surperb specialised first aid course.

But as I understand with the bigger packages offered, it allows the person attending to be talked through a variety of procedures administering if nessesary drugs that even the best F/A first aid course could not be allowed to do. Hard call though, is it a private operation? If so ask your owner he/she be able to give you the final answer what they would prefer.

I have used them when on the ground for guidance about transporting a guy with a new broken leg. Very useful and very helpful.

I echo redsnail's comments.

Flying over North Eastern Canada the no. 1 became very ill. Medlink were very professional and decisive in helping us make the decision to divert and advising on first aid. They even made suggestions which Airports would be most suitable in regards medical facilities. In the end we continued to our destination (2 hours flying time). We most certainly would have diverted if it wasn't for their input.

Costing is expensive however its a insurance plan, they offer great service when you need it.
Had to use them 11 years ago and it saved a VIP passengers life. I get a christmas card each year from this individual.
The Large Black bag carries prescription drugs and with instruction can be administrated.

Its all about how much insurance you want and how old or healthy the passengers are.
