With MD Helicopters losing face on the MD600N series...perhaps they should offer a "Hot and High" version with the reliable and proven tail of the 500 series...just a thought..

Add a four-blade T/R and what you're looking at there is Boeing's AH-6S Phoenix offering for AAS ('not-such-a-Little-Bird').

I presume the 500D tail shown must have benefits over the 500E tail then. If so, what benefits?

You will need a lot more tail than that to keep that nose up. You have an extra 30 inches forward of the mast to balance out. That 30 inches includes about 50 gallons of fuel, up to 3 extra people, and a 30 inch greater forward arm for the cockpit.
I think it would look better with the new style end plates instead of the old D style. Probably need the vertical of the AH-6M and the canted tail-rotor too.

Yes Mark I agree..the new end plates would look better...would a heavier engine like the PW207D not work to balance it out? ...anyhow it is just a "what if" idea...I am sure the folks over at MDH have enough to deal with at the moment :)

Just remember- enough "tail" will keep your head high. Not enough "tail" and your head hangs a little lower. The 207 isn't that much heavier really.
