Now that 9G-AXC has left OST to ACC does anyone has more info if she is now active in Africa?

Heard also that the next DC-8 to leave should be AXD and after that AXA.

Another Meridian plane leaving today :D

This time to Fujaira. Not sure what the plan is. I believe its 9G-AXA but I'll check when I go spot it later. Luckily the flight is delayed cause the weather is crap out here. And I forgot to bring my HD camera tooo :ugh:

Check here: één - teletekst (http://teletekst.een.be/tt_een.php?p=383&g=on&s=1&r=0&x=1)

What's happened to the old Iris/United Arabian aircraft (not sure of the reg) ?

Is it allowed to remain/operate in EU ?

MKA742
27th Jan 2011, 09:15
Oh yes! It is the last (proper) DC-8 flying around europe. I hope they will keep ik active for a while to come. :D

If I'm not wrong she had a C check end of last year. Saw here twice in OST already since I got back from Namibia.

Last flights she did were ACE103 to Havana via Canada and last left to Sebha with horses.

Just search the regular sites for 9G-AED.

Video on my channel @ youtube soon, when I get this AVCHD editing right... :ugh:

AXD stored at FJR? Why would you do that... Make her airworthy again and then fly her to FJR for further storage??

I"ve had hoped they found some work for them.

Some people should check their sources before spreading false information....
AXD won't be store in FJR, they will fly in Africa for some time until Europe lift the ban... it will take some time but the maintenance paperwork, etc,... improved a lot!!
FJR is just a cheap parking spot btw Africa and Asia....!
ans also, AXD, she's in a pretty good shape....and flying good
Happy landings

AXD....! she is flying...

ErwinS
31st Jan 2011, 11:44
I realy hope that Meridian will get there stuff together and will be back operating within the EU.
But why wasn't the maintenance good from the start?
They should have known that if you fly with vintage DC-8's from OST you will get inspections from the CAA.... with the resulting ban.

MKA742

I wonder how many rules are broken by any other operator... I'm certain they inspect a DC8 in more detail then a newer plane, just because it looks older.

Anyway, any spottings on the Meridians lately?:} And AED? Ive been waiting for her to try and film her better this time, haven't seen the old lady since the flight to Sebha :(

9G-AED is stored at Manston so Air Charter Express seems to be bust?

Meridian has now two active birds. one in Africa and the other in the Middle Eas.

9G-AXC was noted active last April at Abu Dhabi.

AED stored!!???? :ugh::{:\:mad:

Bye bye DC8, I will miss them.... Classic era of aviation is officially over :(

All I can hope for is to see the National 63 or ZS-OSI now... Slim chance...

ErwinS
22nd May 2011, 19:25
Indeed very sad. The site of Air Charter Express is now also down.... Homepage (http://www.dc8cargo.com)

Maybe AED will be picked up by another operator.

Meridian was busy trying to get off the EU black list but that chance looks slim.

AXA,AXB and AXD are all stored now for a long time at OST.

From whom is the info that AXA, AXB and AXD are stored now for long
time in OST ???

For example AXD is already flown out of OST to Fujairah !

AXE is the third one still in OST

ErwinS

Exup

Meridian Airways where never parked in Manston, that is Air Charter Express. That Aircraft has been sold to Stars Away of South Africa. Meridian currently has two aircraft flying. One that has had extensive maintenance carried out & is ready to depart Ostende. One that is currently undergoing maintenance & one awaiting its maintenance input.

Sorry, should have made my question clearer, it was these 2 old girls that I was enquiring about ;)

MKA742
8th Sep 2011, 18:49
What's your problem??

First of all, care's is short for 'care is', which makes no sense.

We are trying to track the last few DC8s around, leave us be.

Great to hear AED is being looked after! But is it bought by Stars Away or Hanover Aviation now?? Hope she gets a new paint too :ok:

DC 8 is a great airplane!!
My who’s cares is for the Meridian not the DC8.

No HD video... If someone cares...

The other 2 don't seem anywhere near flying condition yet. I wonder if they will even depart. Would HATE to have mist the very last DC8 at Ostend...

Old thread I know, but thought some of you might be interested in hearing about 9G-AXD. She's based out of NBO (JKIA) at the moment, bringing relief supplies to Mogadishu for UNICEF. Up to December last year, they were running two to four rotations a day. Also a second Meridian DC8 is based at NBO but I don't have its reg just now.

Cheers,

SB.

Should be 9G-AXA I believe. Good to hear that they are still flying.

On a sidenote, Johnson/Airlift 9G-TOP was seen active this month at Zagreb:-)
