1999 UK ATPL(A) Exams: Theory credit still valid?

Good evening, folks.

I converted the UK BCPL(A) to a JAR CPL SPA MEIR in 1999-2000, passing the old UK ATPL(A) exams, and Perf. A & E at the same time.

My IR has never lapsed beyond 4 years and I am a current FI(A).

I still have an MCC to do: my licence is a JAR CPL(A) with, or so I believe valid ATPL(A) Credit.

Are my old UK ATPL exam passes still valid or now worth squat?!!!:{

Still valid as long as you have not let your IR lapse by more than 7 years......but do check lasors to make sure

Hi EIPCW.

I have just been reminded that I was issued with a JAR CPL(A)(R) from which the (R) was removed when I met the criteria for "full" JAR CPL issue.

As I never let my IR lapse by more than 7 years I can only assume (dangerous I know) that the CAA at that time accepted my UK ATPL exams - otherwise why issue me with a "full" JAR CPL as I have now AND never bat an eyelid everytime I renewed my IR?

There is another guy in a similar boat over on Flying Instructors and Examiners although he is entirely UK - ATPL exams, CPL & IR.

Still fully valid- who knows if EASA licensing requirements next year or so will change that...

Problem you may have is, you'll be getting the JAR ATPL and while the UK ATPL exams will still be valid for upgrade, you'll need to meet the JAR ATPL flight experience requirements. These include 500 hours on multi pilot aircraft JAR/FAR 25 and complete a JAR ATPL skill test on a JAR/FAR 25 aircraft with a JAR TRE.....

Experience you may have from years back etc, but you do need to do the ATPL skill test which could be costly if you're not with an airline....

At the moment the UK exams are still valid for the issue of a JAR ATPL, as I said previously, however next year it looks as though EASA licensing requirements may start taking effect. At the moment the UK CAA can say they accept their old UK ATPL exams for the issue of the UK JAR ATPL, as JAR isn't european or UK law, and the UK CAA has to go by their own law in the ANO.

However next year it'll be european law, and the UK won't have the power to automatically say the exams are valid. The EU/EASA may simply say they accept JAR exams or the new EASA exams, and the UK can't do anything about it unless EASA says they'll also except national exams pre JAR. Who knows if they'll say the latter??
