There is a picture in my mess of Herc XV213 flying extremely low causing blokes to dive for cover. I believe the picture was staged but just out of interest can anyone shed any light for me on XV213; is it still flying and how old is it etc?

And judging by the dodgy moustaches, messy hair and the use of putties I would say the pic was taken in the 1980's.

Got the Ar5se kicked out of the airframe ('numerous' ovetorques) whilst in tanker role at MPA. I deffinately wouldn't buy it!

There was a series of such spoofs circulating on 1312 Flt in 1986 just before the move to MPA. I think they mostly had ISO containers in the foreground as that was a major feature of the architecture at Stanley. They were created in the Photo Section, I believe.

Puttees were the height of fashion then.

There was a detachment called Khana Cascade in 1973 involving Hercs flying relief supplies into Nepal.
One of my mates did a low beat-up of base and blew the CO's tent away - no idea of the a/c serial.Maybe this was the incident in your picture.
IIRC said CO later became a 'hirer' at Cathay and remembered my mate when he applied - he didn't get the job!

This might be xv213 it certainly was "thrown about" back in the day.

As a former 1321 Flt 'Sooty (Sept 85 - Jan 86) I can certainly testify that it was thrown about abit, especially when I was on it during fighter affil's! :ok:
