As I have no idea what Google says I can't comment on that, but as a general observation Google is the authority on correct usage in English since when, exactly?

Pedantry means "excessive concern with trifling details", according to the OED, which is the authority...excessive and trifling being the criterion.

If you owed me £10.00 and I did what was done above, ie chucked in a gash decimal point where it didn't belong and also another zero for good luck thus rendering the invoice £100.00 I guess you'd object loudly. Pedantic? What do you suppose google would make of that?

Why is it different linguistically?

I had posted this on Rotorheads (with no returns) - maybe better luck here?

Does anyone possess memories of Hoverlloyd based at Ramsgate?

Initially, hovercraft pilots required a PPL as part of their qualification but this was later reduced to a mariner's certificate only.

Accessing the cockpit involved a lengthy ladder climb through the interior of the craft, the ride was fairly bumpy, with serviceable wipers and radar being mandatory operating requirements. Generally one could see precious little out of the front windows as they were perpetually doused in sea spray. Traffic avoidance was down to the navigator who spent most of the crossing with his head peering into the radar scope - a device which I managed to bang my head on during one trip after the rubber guard had been removed to afford me a 'better' look.

To steer this in a 'more-than-hovering' direction, I am searching for information about a filming exercise which took place using a Ferranti Helicopter G-BAKT in the early to mid 70's when Chris Hunt (Deputy CP of Ferranti) conducted a filming sortie for Hoverlloyd. The same day as this assignment a civvie Gazelle dropped in to Ramsgate to up-lift fuel from BP's depot. Evidently Ramsgate hoverport was used by a number of private and commercial helicopter operators for re-fuelling on the South East coast.

I'm not so hopeful of anyone having details on this but .. its PPRuNe and one never knows!
