I remember my first flight with Luxair from Johannesburg (Jan Smuts) to Luxembourg (Findel) in a Boeing 707 that definitely came out of the SAA stable. The date was April 1971.
We stopped in Luanda on the way North and in Rome on the way South. In fact the Rome stop, descibed as Technical Stop in the timetable, also allowed us to be fed. The food trolleys were loaded in Rome and off loaded again before the takeoff.
Some years later I did a Comm course at Grand Central Airport, Halfway House. The navigation segment was run by a Dutchman who had been navigator on the Trek Airways South Atlantic flights to Rio de Janeiro. That in the L1649 Super Constellations.
Luxair were renowned for offering free alcoholic beverages at a time when you paid for everything consumed on a flight.
