I left the RAF 2 years ago after 25 years and am toying with the idea of joining the RAuxAF.
I'd be grateful for any informed insights.
Anybody done it? Worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Very broad question... Which branch were you in, are you considering joining the same branch or a different one... It's a rather personal choice and difficult to endorse or discourage.

I was aircrew Rookie but I was thinking about joining the reserves as an IntO as my current job (in MoD) is heavily Int related. No strong views though, more intrigued by the potential for interesting work and (hopefully) a bit of a challenge.

600 (City of London) Sqn based at Northolt are a good bunch. Their role is to provide trained personnel to work in support of RAF and PJHQ worldwide. Very broad, very employable and the current Sqn Cdr is superb.

Mr C,

TVM. It was 600 Sqn I was thinking of contacting. I understand their CO is Michele Crossman. Is she regular RAF?

The Air Warfare Centre informed me in early November that there is currently a temporary halt in recruitment for the Intelligence Reserves until recent recruits have been processed - this applies to 7006, 7010, & 7630 Squadrons. Not sure about 600 Squadron though.

HMS FERRET (The RNR Int Equiv to the RAuxAF) is still recruiting and has previously taken former light blue candidates. The work is very similar, but obviously more maritime driven than the RAuxAF), but drop me a PM and I'll point you in the direction of their recruiting officer...

Sun - yes, found out about 600 Sqn, very much made it her own. She is (IMHO) one of the best I've worked with over the years. She works very hard getting the RAF to understand the Sqn and the many roles it has and get the best for it and out of it.

Jimlad,
Ferret is a bit of a distance from me and, as I understand it, they concentrate on ratings as far as ex serving personnel are concerned. Thanks anyway.

Mr C,
Thanks for the info. I'll give 600 Sqn a bell.

What's the recruitment levels like for City of Glasgow squadron if anyone knows? Are they looking for people and is it a good organisation for those of us who have no mil experience at all just civi flying?

One of my mates was thinking about this so thought I'd ask.

Has "your mate" been turned down by the RAF due to a past history of asthma?

No, my mate is an FO with a major airline.

Why don't you, err your mate go onto the RAF Reservist website and follow the contacts on there regarding recruitment. I am sure you, sorry, your mate will be given a lot of help.
Why would I join the RAF Reserves when I'm wanting to join the Navy full time and wanting to start selection ASAP?! I've not even tried to join the RAF or sent any application off to them!!
