Hey guys! (and girls)

Happy Holidays and best wishes for the new year.

"Fly low and fly slow" was my granma's mantra (she would have been 102 today) RIP ma! I did tell her that this height-velocity ratio was not always a helo pilots ideal habitat - but I knew what she meant!

Take care and hey - let's see more PPRuNers from the US signing-up in 2011!

Merry Christmas from Sweden!

http://images.hugzone.multiply.com/image/1/photos/upload/300x300/Rpj1YgoKCqAAAAoJOo01/xmas_babes_05.jpg?et=qZbtf4MOwXWLvVqEBYsFRw

Probably many of you know that in Sweden tonight is the big night for us when we have our main Christmas meal (our family will have goose) and when we exchange gifts. Let me say "Skol" to all members from Rotorheads!

In the Swedish military, like with many other countries, we have some competition between fighter pilots and helicopter pilots. This year the fighter pilots decide to do something a little different, see here:

Well the helicopter pilots are already talking about a plan for next year, maybe a different kind of heli-ski. We will see.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Dear Friends

Like many these days I find myself almost constantly on the move oftentimes away from home for many weeks in a row. But, one thing I witness at the end of each year is the universal subscription to the Christmas theme.

In this past week moving from China, via Dubai to East Africa and eventually back to Milano yesterday, I saw once again how this holiday is recognised, to some degree, by almost everyone everywhere and I always consider how the near global recognition of this holiday perhaps brings us all just a fraction 'closer' for a few days.

My time as a member of PPRuNe (7 months now) has also been a uniting experience - one which I never bargained for!

In particular a brief query at the end of June as to the whereabouts of the little JetRanger I completed my training on, G-TALY, spawned a string of responses which has fostered a host of online acquaintances and restored some long-lost connections.

I would like to send special seasonal greetings to some of the regular contributors to the 'Nostalgia' (G-TALY) thread including: Brilliant Stuff, Earl of Rochester, Epiphany, Geoffersincornwall, Helipixman, Hofmeister, Long Box, Low Flier, NewForest2, Paco, RedFlag1960, Tarman, TRC, VFR440 and WiganAirways to mention but a few.

On the Nostalgia thread one of the highlights for me was the contribution by Ken Davies' son who provided details and images of TALY's delivery from Frosinone to Fairoaks (who could have imagined such luck!). By the way, I forgot to mention to RedFlag that in the first picture of his dad in post #132 on page 7, his father bears an uncanny resemblance to the Italian actor Roberto Benigni (best known outside Italy for his role in the film 'Life is Beautiful').

Then on page 10 a contribution from PPRuNer Hofmeister helped close another query when he was able to identify the registration of the helicopter owned by Braron von Furstenbeg (D-HJFF) which turned out to have been bought my a friend of my godfather, Charles Hughesdon.

Later in the thread TRC arrives - someone who knew my godfather (evidently taking him on the back of a motorcycle from Battersea to the Waldorf!). TRC was able to verify many of my ramblings including the identity of Charles Hughesdon's pilot Geoff Cocks, the 'mystery' pilot in Hofmesiter's Pathe clip who I recognised and which turned out to be Pete Wilson and the engineer (Nick Thake) who had his coat burnt by Peter Cadbury while performing ground runs. TRC was also able to disclose the cause of the engine failure (a fractured P2 line) I experienced in Colin Chapman's Bell 206 G-AYTF.

For his part Helipixman has performed miracles by coming up with images of aircraft which were eluding us including G-CHOC and G-AYTF. Many thanks friend! Helipix is also working with me in my research for the website which is detailing (among other things) the history of Ferranti Helicopters.

So, for all this and much more I remain most thankful.

I have restored contact with Dennis Kenyon and PPRuNer Palma after some 30+ years and which I am also glad about.

I extend a very special thank you and hearty greetings to veteran PPRuNer, former Ferranti pilot and former Chief Pilot of BCal Helicopters, SpeechlessTwo through whom I discovered this forum. Thanks again friend.

Last, but by no means least, my thanks and greetings to Heliport and Senior Pilot for their moderating skills with the forum (well done chaps!) and for putting up with what must at times seem like a lot of 'drivel' - your patience is appreciated!

Well, having spent almost all my time on PPRuNe reminiscing over UK helicopters let me close out the year with something from home:

http://lh3.ggpht.com/__dRpfF8qlVM/TROenndJK4I/AAAAAAAABFA/2W-jh190VYA/88513572.jpg

Winter 1967: Fiat Group Chairman and Founder Gianni Agnelli (a friend of my father's and perhaps one of Italy's most well known commercial Ambassadors of the past century) retreats to the isolated slopes surrounding Sestriere ski resort. (And you thought heli-skiing was a new pursuit!).

Buon Natale!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all on Rotorheads and PPRuNe in general. I'm looking forward to seeing my 2 year old son open a big shiny plastic Jet Ranger tomorrow morning, I'm not sure how long it will last!

I'd also like to mention the families who are missing loved ones this year, AJ Smith and most recently Simon & Martin in particular spring to mind, never got the pleasure of meeting them, but sounded like super chaps and all the others, our thoughts are with you.

Looking forward to watching great new threads develop in 2011. Have fun and safe flying! ;)

Can I add my Christmas good wishes to all Ppruners and especially to my personal colleagues & friends. Some I'm still able to meet and to the others ... perhaps one day. To Savoia ... it has been fascinating and most enjoyable to take part in your researches. So many many returning memories. To my dear mate, GS and the others ... when things got bad for me in March 2000, your interest, kind words and support was comforting.

So to echo the thanks to our Senior Pilot and Mod. A really, very Merry Christmas to you all and here's to a fun, prosperous and safe flying year in 2011. Dennis Kenyon.
