The Archerfield Airport Preliminary Draft Master Plan 2011-31 (PDMP) is now open for consultation. The PDMP has been developed to meet the operational needs of Brisbane’s Metropolitan Airport over the next five years. Key changes associated with the plan include:

Realignment of the airport’s two grass runways (04/22) to improve their usability by light aircraft by moving them out of low-lying, flood-prone areas;
The setting aside of land to the west of the realigned grass runways for future aviation and non-aviation development to support the airport’s activities;
Plans for small freight and light passenger plane operations to cater for some domestic travel and to complement local business operations;
Changing the zoning of some ‘General Industry’ and ‘Light Industry’ areas to ‘Special Purpose Centre SP-6 (Airport)’ to increase existing land dedicated to long-term aviation uses by five hectares;
Reserving a 500m strip of land adjacent to the primary runway (10L/28R) for long-term, high-end aviation infrastructure;
Augmenting the taxiway system to maximise runway capacity and efficient ground movement of aircraft;
Indicating areas suitable for potential flying student accommodation; and
Replacing/rejuvenating ageing premises and making new, improved bases available to existing and future tenants. For pilots and business operators at the airport, these changes provide for improved overall runway usability and future facilities, services and opportunities that will support the growth of aviation at Archerfield.

The consultation period will run for three months and close on 18thMarch 2011. Once the public consultation period has been completed, the PDMP will be reviewed by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

You can have your say by calling the PDMP 2011 hotline on (07) 5591 3058, emailing us at http://www.archerfieldairport.com.au/Downloads/Masterplan2011/masterplan_emailaddress.gif or visit www.archerfieldairport.com.au/masterplan (http://www.archerfieldairport.com.au/masterplan) to download a copy of the PDMP and view supplementary Fact Sheets.

We believe the activities conducted by pilots and business operators at the airport will be enhanced by the proposed changes. If however, you have specific concerns about how these changes may impact you, we would be happy to discuss these with you.

We look forward to receiving any feedback you may have about the PDMP and wish you and your family all the best for the festive season.

Yours sincerely,
