Hello All:

I'm thinking about stopping at this island for refuelling and an overnight stay during a ferry flight I have to do at the end of this month.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has been there in the last year or two...

- Is it fairly trouble-free to get in and out of there (minimal headaches)?
- Jet fuel availability
- Hotel and ground transport recommendations

Many thanks,

Michael

We carried out extensive aerial survey work in Yemen a few years back and although we never had occasion to land there we did research it in the event of needing to.. it's come a long way since I had to avoid it back in my professional sailing days (pirates)... I think that it's pretty safe now... there's a company there that should be able to help you out.. I think it's called International Air Charter Socotra... They do definately have Jet fuel available though like all islands deliveries can be spasmodic so advance arrangements will pay off... on the down side you're not likely to find a beer there so take your own and... it's home to the worlds deadliest spider.

Negative on the fuel. I used to fly there weekly from Al Mukalla/Riyan and had to tanker r/t. If you want to overnight in Socotra, make a quick fuel stop in Riyan (OYRN). From Riyan, it is a direct flight to Socotra.

This is a beautiful time of year to go there. It is not recommended between May and September due to very high winds.

Any questions, pm
