Hi

I am about to embark on my PPP after a life long love for flying. My dad was relocated to Lagos in Nigeria when I was 4 (I am now 30) we always used to fly down to London from Newcastle before getting on board a British Caledonian Plane.

My memories are of the young flyers club, meeting the captain and watching movies before they were released in England.

I have always had an interest in British Caledonian, its unfortunate they havent been around for a while!

I was there for 3 years (80-83) but unfortunatly did not feel part of the the airline team.

I was a maintenance fitter at the time and when looking for digs or a house share, the response from other employees was "Oh! you get dirty don't you"

Also even in engineering there was a "them and us" feel between the office people and the hangar. We did a big check for Air Florida and after the aircraft went out they laid on a bit of a party upstairs. We, the workers weren't invited. The AF rep went mad when he found out why we did not attend.

The hangar itself was a good place to work though and I gained a lot of experience and my maintenance licence and BAC 1-11 type rating.

Another interesting BCAL Site is a British Caledonian Tribute (http://www.british-caledonian.com/) originally created in 1998 by the Current Webmaster's Father and went into hibernation for a long while after he died, but is now updated on a regular basis.
