Cargolux Strike ????

Hi, any news on the rumor that the Cargolux pilots will go on strike??
They seem to have planned a big demonstration at the airport in Luxembourg.
It is about serious safety risks , any news on that ??? any insider ready to comment.

it's not a strike it's a demo (at the airport) , according to some, 300 crew signed to back it (out of 400 +)
it started at 1030 local
this is a crew action only , ground staff didn't back it

Dear Minister Wiseler,
I am writing to you as President of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA) which represents more than 100,000 professional pilots in more than 90 countries worldwide. The Federation is concerned by the deterioration in the overall safety culture of Cargolux Flight Operations which has been brought to our attention by the Association Luxembourgeoise des Pilotes de Ligne (ALPL), our Member Association in Luxembourg.
This concern has recently been highlighted by a breach of Cargolux’s operation manual A (OM-A), where it is expressly stated that a “Reporting System shall be Confidential and ‘Non Punitive”. I am sure you will understand that a failure to maintain either of these two requirements seriously compromises the safety culture that and Air Safety Report (ASR) system attempts to establish. However, during a recent meeting with members of the Safety Department, wherein ASR’s were being evaluated, the Chief Pilot received the name of the pilot responsible for a specific ASR. Not only is this a flagrant violation of the OM-A, but the fact that the pilot was subsequently summoned to the Chief Pilot’s office and directed to change the contents of his ASR, is a serious abuse of power, and clearly detrimental to air safety.
These actions reinforce an already dangerous environment within which pilots are fearful to address their concerns and provide an alarming commentary on the safety culture at Cargolux operations.
In the sincere hope of preventing a possible catastrophe, we feel it our duty to inform you of these matters and urgently request your intervention.

@Dark Jedi.....False....the demonstration was sanctioned and backed by the union LCGB under which most of the ground staff is organized.....

Agree with the above comment. You cant have knackered old farts that refuse to run with Just Culture in a company these days... If a company still have these dinosaurs on the books, they need to get sacked to support just culture.

yeah thought so ....

check your facts/reality
and fact is ground staff be it SEA/LCGB (not their union rep.) or OGBL did NOT back this .
It's quite an easy game for A. Kapweiler to communicate whatever he seems of use as he represents ALPL (crew) and LCGB\SEA (ground) alike.
The fact that you are so well informed leads me to believe you might be a CV staff member , so next time you are around one of CV's buildings (let's say flight ops\the simulator) try talking to some of the "crawlers" over a coffee.

Do you honestly think for one moment, it is any better than in Asia or Africa for e.g?????

That is one of the many reasons i could mention, for there being such an appalling safety record in these areas.

It is very obvious that you are not a flight crewmember, considering that you have no clue whatsoever what the purpose of this demonstration was.
I suggest you inform yourself about the main issue which is SAFETY....or rather the lack of it in operations management.
I don't really care if you are LCGB or OGBL but fact of the matter was that this demo was attended by the top brass of the LCGB - and remember no ground staff employee was elected to the LCGB delegation after the last election - they all were handed their seats as a gift from the flightcrewmembers since they got all the votes.
Think about that....

thanks for the reply's . i do get that the ground staff and "their' union where not on board. however i am sure they have different problems. still pilots on the streets , sound like trouble too me.

This has not to be backed by any ground staff because they are not part of the ASR system. the fact that pilots names are leaked through the system to the chief pilots office are more than alarming.
The mail that has been sent to you, well ignore it, the author has more than has his fair name in the company.
If you want to still apply is solely your choice, it is stil a good company, we have to change a couple of things though.

the disunity amongst the various union branches will come back to bite ,when the economic downturn of 2011 arrives, the management will see this as an opportunity to improve the condition of the company:}

Was the problem with ASRs and giving personal info to the Chief Pilot resolved? Also, what are the scheduling issues you are having to deal with? Are they abusing minimum rest requirements? I'm interested in your company. I fly contract -400 for a Chinese company into Luxembourg. You can't imagine the abuse with duty and rest that goes on here. I appreciate your feedback.
