Taskbar thumbnails

Having at last loaded W7 H-Prem on my Office PC, I put my usual things on the Task Bar. I'm almost certain the pop-up thumbnails showed at one stage, but then horizontal gray bars, with open subject in text only appeared. This is not nearly as useful.

I can't find a way to make the thumbnails come back. Does Home Premium indeed have them, or was I dreaming?
