Cubbie purports to be a Boeing 777 Captain, yet on a public forum he bleats about a complete non-event, an Airbus A330 landing quite safely with, allegedly, an engine shut down. Perhaps one day he will be in the same position; will he then tell us all about it? I doubt so.
Mods, where are you? Stop this nonsense.

Landing with an engine shut down on a two engine airplane is "a complete non-event"? Declaration of an emergency is required by the regs I fly under. Sure, it is a manageable situation, but declaring an emergency is not "a complete non-event".

I think the point here is that nobody in the Australian media seems to bat an eyelid unless it happens to Qantas. Every little event that occurs on a Qantas plane is blown out of proportion.... bird strike "passengers were fearing for their lives" lighting strike "I thought we were going to crash".
Yet non-events seem to go un-noticed on other airlines.
