Gent,

Is the long haul job in THY a permanent job or a 3 year contract? I have heard both versions.
Please answer only if you know, not if you have heard something (like me)

Thanks

1 or 3 years only.

its 1 year initially, then becomes another extra 3 , renewed anyways every 1 year due to foreign worker contract issue with the work permit, but it is still a 3 years deal after the initial one...then it will become forever if in 4 years time they still need you....no they wont.

No upgrade for FOs, no change of fleet...just work.

yes i was at the assessment, yes i was offered a job..

Difference between LH and SH is the roster..commutable for LH, not commutable for SH...

Hang on...after 4 years what has changed. Why wouldnt they need us. If they hire 30-40 or 50 ( I dont know the number) pilots now, it would be strange if they would fire everyone after 4 years.
Are they not mandated to hire expats or is that just a rumour?

Reason is their union...

They're recruiting across all fleets and quite extensively it seems.....why and for how long......anybody ?

reason for recruitment is simple: fleet expansion. Even more their CEO has no intention of joining one of the large groups in Europe but rather sees Turkis as the nucleus of the fourth large airline group to come...

So why are they in Star?

set_default
16th Nov 2010, 17:24
they may belong to STAR, but they have no intention of joining any LH or AF/KLM or BA/IB group. After all that's what their CEO said....

With the planned fleet expansion from about 140 A/C to 300 A/C in 8 to 10 years they will require contract pilots for many years, latest word was 140 more Capts. on various types plus 600 F/O slots...contract initially one year and if service is satisfactory a three year extension is offered ( renewable).

What are the minimum hrs. requirements. Is a type rating required? I've got a couple thousand PIC jet (DC-9), and maybe 2000 SIC in the 320, would that be competitive for a direct hire captain?

Thanks

Please don't ge me wrong, but looks like your jet PIC experience is not compatible with your age...which could affect your competitiveness...
Better to check with the agencies, if they are that desperate you have good chances.

Current 777 Capt. is approx 17,000 Turkish Lire after tax...plus a 3 monthly bonus of +7,000 Turkish Lire.....if you don't want to stay in a hotel they will give you 2,000 Turkish Lire/ Month towards an apartment, overtime is earned over 70 hours/month and additional pay is earned working on Sundays and Turkish Public Holidays....

2000 lire for a flat in IST means a rellocation in a "FAVELA" area of the city.:ugh:

The majority of 777 pilots stay in a hotel, only a handfull have taken the accommodation allowance option, the current hotel used is The Titanic at Bakirkoy, fairly close to the airport, convenient to a major shopping mall, restaurants & the railway station...most European domiciled people have a chance to head home after long range flights with the required 48 hour rest period.....

Hello, how do they go home? According to the contract you get Z-tickets only after one year with the company.... or is that diffrent? I would appreciate any info on that. Pay sounds good, how is working climate and treatment there? Thanks in advance.

Wide body contract Capts. with THY get FREE travel to their domicile for their block days off....for European based crew, a ticket to the nearest port served by THY, for overseas pilots a THY ticket PLUS an economy ticket on any airline to their home base , say THY to JFK then a refunded ticket to ATL or wherever, there are pilots commuting from LAX/GRU/AKL/BNE & HKT!!!

Does anybody know what taxation is applied to the advertised salary package by the Turkish Goverment and if the Company pays part of it?

How many Pilots are they looking for the A330 fleet? I heard they stopped hiiring for the B777 and the A320.

Thanks

they wait for more turkish pilots to be ready and then expats go home... especially if you speak greek then it doesnt matter if you fly the sim spot on.. you go home!

I am flying on Saturday to IST and will look into THY and some of the Lad´s there. Are there any serious questions required to ask? Somehow I am temptet to join.

The day´s off is not as good as I have presently but the overall feedback is more positive then where I am at the moment. It is closer to home and some of the destinations are the same I fly presently, no exciting news then except to Africa again.

I prefer the Hotel instead of the own appartment there as it is less hassle for me to keep up with all the other stuff you hang onto when you have a appartment. Bills, cleaning, washing clothes and making breakfast, all done in the Hotel for me. I am used to it and it workes for me the last 15 Years.

Contract duriation is not that clear between the offer and the reality, 3 years versus 1 year. Lookes like a extended probation period. Some of my former Colleagues who are there over 3 years now on a wet lease have not too much to complaint about. Everybody keep´s a little secret about the total day´s off got at home in excess to the 7 days for Europeans and the average pay per month as it fluctuates due to extra pay for Sunday/Holiday and +70 hrs.

I appreciate any input and suggestion what I can expect and how it is applied.
