Pilot training continues as usual I would think. Need to maintain BCRs etc. Skill fade perhaps but I'm sure training will continue. Otherwise there will be more incidents and accidents.

A good chance to design a new wheel, grease the old axle and re-write the syllabus and training notes without the pressure of real work or a deadline.

THE NEW WHEEL:

1. It should have a centre of Excellence.
2. It should use Instructors from the front line.
3. It should be multi staged, with proper appraisals throughout
4. It should employ the latest thinking and doctrine consitently (C of E)
5. It should embody the very Heart and Soul of Military Ethos (C of E)
6. It should enhance, not just train, guide, not just conform, develop, not just exist.
7. It should have a longevity, fixed beyond short term whims.
8. It should be Central
9. It should be about Flying
10. But most, it should be a School.

Arrrr Sh1te.... Its been done........ grrrrrrr

Training yes

Recruitment yes

for the RAAF.

Difficult if you are just joining up and need to jump through the hoops, ref citizenship etc, but if you are nearly badged maybe a possibility. Tell the boys to ring the embassy.

so, we sack 25% of the pilots we trained this year at a cost or £3 m each and then spend another £3 M training more pilots this year and next?
Yes I can see how that saves money

With all this bad news, I can't help wonder if the RAF/FAA/AAC flying training system will be binned in favour of getting fully on board with the NATO Flying Trainig Canada?

bb - the vast majority have not had £3m (or £4m or however much they quote this week) spent on them otherwise they'd all have to have been made redundant at the end of their OCU. Many will come from much earlier in the training system and therefore the costs you suggest will be much less.

Still pretty damned tragic for them though.

Well in that case nobody will complain if they provide the scrubbees with £100K or so to sort out their ATPL's with various endorsements, so that they can move on quietly and happy to potential Airline Employment. ;)

Could the airlines absorb 170 new pilots?
(Not to mention the other 300 or whatever from the squadrons).

Hmm, I think we also need to resurrect the Super Constellations, 707's and Short flying boats, 'cos there's a good few navs and radio ops needing gainful employment too. (Sorry, WSO/Ops, showing my age there).
