Skywagon, thanks for you offer I asked a few questions and then the thread was gone. If you have a moment can you tell me what is the difference between a 182 conversion to a 185 and a 'bought one'? Also what is the insurance like on them for private ops? CPL with about 200 hrs tail time. It is as horrific as I think it may be?

Probably best to visit the "What is it about the C180/185" thread.

I think the instigator of the last thread took his bat n ball, and went home.

Early 182's (A,B and C models) and early 180's have a lot in common. A converted 182 will look like a 180 but it will still be a 182 on the Type certificate. They would fly the same.
Converted 182A's don't have cowl flaps, whereas 180A's do.

Insurance could be costly.
I get it for 2.25% of hull value(nil accidents), but i don't know how that compares with similar nose-wheel aircraft like 206's etc.

There was a thread titled "I'm in Love with the Cessna 185", but deleted by the person that commenced the thread.

You certainly didn't miss anything of technical merit.
