Hi,

I have an treadmill by which I have a digital photo frame. It plays DiVx/AVI/MPEG1-2 files quite well. So while I walk in the evenings I would like to watch a movie or music DVD (which I do legitimately own) and I rip the DVD to one of these formats and generally the picture plays on about 75% of the available screen on the photoframe. Even though the filesize is large I have no dofficulties transferring it and playing the file.

Now I am willing to pay for ripping software but all the ones I have tried fail me as I cannot get it to full screen. I have tried to get many of the apps to rip to an MPEG at 800x600 but to no avail.

Anyway, do you guys have any suggestions on good ripping software so that I can reduce the monotony of my evening exercise?

Thanks!

The resolution of DVD is 720x576 (PAL) or 720x480 (NTSC). I can't think of any software off-hand that would upscale during the ripping process, because it's an unusual and, 99.99% of the time, pointless exercise. I think you'd want to have the player side do that. I guess your frame doesn't do such things. You're the 0.01% :-)

Some movies are square and some are rectangular (wide screen)
Not only would your software have to do transcoding, but also pixel doubling.

Many times when you watch video that 'fills the screen' that is only because the broadcaster has cheerfully discarded the useful picture on either side!
Best bet, get a proper portable dvd player or toss the bloody treadmill and go for a walk outside!

I haven't got it with me on this laptop but I'm 99% sure you can do this with dvdfab. Where you can change the output resolution/ratio to what you want i.e. 16:9 to 4:3 or infact any ratio you like.

It sounds like your movies are in widescreen 16:9 and the player is 4:3.

I have DVDFab and I THINK it would be suitable. It is a good program with assorted options but, like spanners, I don't have it on this machine to make sure it can do wot is needed.*

*Disclaimer. The part above is there for information purposes only. Illegally copying movies, even for your own personal use in any way, is wrong and can mean your children will catch all sorts of horrible diseases which will make there genitals disappear. That is if you believe the anti-piracy people, who equate what the OP is wishng to do with the wholesale copying of movies for commercial gain by groups which can only be described as "organised crime". Of course, this has no bearing on my own position regarding the subject.
