Alo,
How are things with TBA? Haven´t heard any news for a while. Have the employees received their pay, are planes still grounded...?

TransBrasil is still struggling for a miracle. As usual some vultures have been flying over that ailing airline trying to get some parts (the best ones, of course). Tam leads that run and Gol is in the second place. Initially Gol has suggested to fly some TB routes accepting TB ticket-passengers if they would have some benefits. Tam has proposed to hire 1,200 TB's employees if the Brazilian government gives some rights to them, basically hangars & slots in Congonhas. As one can see only profitable stuffs, however all debts and deficit are on hold waiting for fresh money.

I was there when it happened.
My father had miles to collect and decided to travel on the 7th of December and I warned him that from the look of things the company wouldn't make till that date. I wish I had such "fortune" in some lottery! As it was he would miss a vacation trip with my mother. So to see that most employees were (are) a great bunch of people he managed to call the local agent to find out the girls were hidden on the upper floor from the store. They agreed to "remark" his ticket to one day earlier and stamped the ticket with and date from two weeks earlier. Problem was, it was a courtesy ticket ,one that airliners were refusing to embark. But somehow the staff of a red tail airline missed that and he made it with my mother to his five day vacation. He paid the back trip ,but at least he got some money saved.
I tell this here to show how those people even when they had no more obligation with the people who bought tickets and were left "a la Swissair" at the airports (not the case here I'll admit) - they haven't received full salaries for some time already - did what they could. It was a good company (from pax side at least) that went down sadly. Again ,great bunch of people.

Thanks guys. I really hope that things will turn to the better in the new year. And if not in TBA, that the good employees will find jobs in other airlines. Any TBA pilots here??

TB pilots have been transferred to TAM, Gol, ABSA (they're bringing 2 767F from LanChile Cargo), NLA and some airlines in SE Asia.
Varig recently made a deal with Boeing and its debts have reduced in $350 million. Good news is expected in January, however almost 300 FA have been on furlough and some co-pilots are waiting for rearrangement.

Glad to hear good news are expected. I´ve got friends in RG and TBA. For the TBA friends though, it may be all over. So sad so sad. My missus was a F/A there in the eightties and early nineties. Thinking about all her friends as well. It ain´t easy to find a new job, when all you´ve done for many years is "flightattending". Pilot colleagues are a little better off thankfully. May they all find jobs with other carriers. Hopefully in Brasil. Who would like to live in Asia after trying Brasil :)
Say Bokomoko, checking your profile, what´s your feeling on the loadfactors on the GRU-CPH-GRU run?? Oooops, RG switched that one to a 777 didn´t they... Well anyway, would you know. The whole family will be travelling on ID tickets in March, as we do every year. But after 9/11, how does loads look??

A friend of mine told me that LHR-GRU on Y and C classes were almost full during his flights (He’s been flying triple-seven since end of November and went 3 times to LHR in December) . My last flight to LHR and CPH was some days after 9/11 and I naturally observed that the number of passenger had decreased compared with my previous flight months ago. However local staff said that flights during weekends from Kastrup to Heathrow have more passengers than weekdays (I don’t know why) but there are often seats available.
But problems usually start in London. It’s hard to say if you have good chances because even some days after the NY tragedy my flight didn’t have any seat available. As usual ID passengers must always try and likely you will have an opportunity to get seats to your family. Good luck and have a nice year!

Thanks again Bokomoko.

We´ve been on this flight many times on ID tickets, and I know that problems usually start in LHR. Thankfully, RG will in CPH will usually denie boarding in CPH, if they can see that the flight will be full out of LHR. That can save us ID´ers a lot of hazzle, getting kicked off in LHR.
I was just wondering if it had gotten any easier now, after 9/11, and after starting out with 777 (which seats a few more people doesn´t it? What do we narrowbodies know :) )

Anyway, can´t wait to get there, somehow or another.

Hey Full, I’m not sure if you know who I am but I certainly know who you are... <img src="cool.gif" border="0"> . However I've been flying all over the world for a dark blue and a yellow star tail yet... :)
By the way, it's incredible but as I could see LA PPrune section has less topics than any other part of this planet. Why?

Go Tom, go. You´ll fall in love with the place. Had it only been possible to switch a JAR licence to a Brazilian without so much hazzle, I´d leave the icy runways up here in a second. Well..... a good reason not to dread the day of retirement :) :)

I know, Aeroboero, at least why I fell in love with Brazil. I did not fall in love with the political system, the bureaucracy, the social differences (mildly put) the corruption etc. etc. Those where the things that I saw only when I lived there for a period.
But going back often as a "tourist" (albeit with a large family there), you can´t help falling in love with the; climate, beaches, the laid back way of life (as opposed to the european), the most warm and open armed (in general) people that I have ever met (and I´ve seen many parts of the world)........well you know. That´s why you miss it. Not because of the stuff in the top of my post. Hope things are working out at -20 feet. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

On TBA matter, here some news out the news on Brazil..in Portuguese;

Hello folks, I'm very glad to read new messages here.

Aeroboero, the situation about the single seniority list among Varig, Rio-Sul and Nordeste pilots remains the same and nobody can see any solution in short or medium term, and if they reach an agreement some day I’m sure that there will have several pilots complaining and very upset at least. If this situation is not sufficient a new storm is approaching: There is a rumor going around that VarigLog management wants a separate group of pilots. What’s my opinion? Well, I have no expression in English, but you could give me some help: How do you translate into English "É o samba do crioulo doido"? Sounds the same. :)
Unfortunately they lost a good opportunity (maybe the best and last one) when Rio-Sul started to fly Baby Boeing in early 90’s. Until that day SL pilots would have agreed with any proposal, even if the oldest pilots were put behind the youngest Varig F/O. However today, uh...I don’t believe they reach a fair consensus, anyway let's wait.

Tom The Tenor, If some sunny and clear day you fly soutbound and a small part of land is visible don't forget to request descent and fly over the South America coast as low as you can, so you'll understand what I meant.

So, TR was bought by the symbolic (say about that) value of R$ 1,00 (+- 0,47 US$) by an air taxi outfit. He simply assumed the debts and promises to fly again a.s.a.p. and even add new aircrafts!. .Well , is wait and see (like São Tomé <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> ). Hope it works ,many people depend on it...best luck to them!
