Hey All,

For a project at school, i need to do a presentation about Ground Ops.
My part will be the Turn-around coordinator. Only thing is that it's just not clear to me what the tasks are.
As also someone told me that the turn-around coordinator needs to hand over a lot of paperwork to the cockpit-crew. But what kind of paperwork is it, what is it for...etc.

Is there anybody that can, and is willing to help me out with this one, and could give me a good description about the tasks and the paperwork?

The TRC (BA abrev for turn around coordinator) is who oversees the safe and time turn around of a flight. He essentially owns the aircraft while it is on the ground, ensure the companies policies are adhered while all ground activities are carried out. The person fulfilling this role should idealy be some someone with a load control background. However this is no longer the case due to airlines cutting back on cost. For some companies, the TRC still performs the weight and balance function and therefore is very much involved in the loading process as he/she would have known how they trimmed the flight and can better make judgement calls in the event that load needs to be relocated to accomodate the ideal trim situation of the aircraft (you would see this on transit flights). In terms of the paper work they would hand to the pilots, includes but is not limited to the flight plan that comes in from the company dispatch center, weather, the checked loadsheet (if a hard copy is generated on station to hand to the crew as some systems allows everything to be sent directly to the acars printer) and in some cases even a copy of a signed loading instructions.

Progress chaser for the turnround (invariably in-round-out)on short layovers.
Health and Safety Rep for turnround (CAP642 refers/HSG209 refers).
DfT AAA reconciliation (AAA checked baggage security)appointed person.
Dangerous goods experienced for declared and non-declared DGR.
Delay allocator and timekeeper of the standard turnround time.
Public relations face-to-face with groundstaff/crew/3rd party providers.
Final link in the chain of accounting for accuracy in the statement of loading (including Last minute changes) and recording/reporting to the appointed mass/balance agency, PRIOR TO DOORS CLOSED/PUSHBACK authority.
NOTE; The loadsheet/trim chart/loading instruction,albeit prepared in many cases remotely nowadays (centralised load planning, ACARS) must still have a final examination for it's accuracy by the TRC and this is not a "junior role" at aircraft side, but a vital role for the safe, secure departure every time.
Although financial renumeration doesn't necessarily match this responsibility, it remains one of the most rewarding and vital ground ops roles to experience for CV development and future airline career, as TRC knowledge on-the-job is constant,varied and ever useful.

Please don't forget an important one; that is the General Declaration. Although I left aviation a few years ago I guess this piece of equipment is still mandatory.
