Select the quote button,

http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/editor/quote.gif

cut and paste what you want quoted in the space between the

[QUOTE.] and the [/QUOTE.]

Dear Nugget,

To quote attributably, click on the reply button http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/buttons/reply_small.gif in the post you want to quote from.

In the address field at the top of the new page, delete the 1 at the end of the URL and press enter.

There you go :)

... but how the hell do you reply on here with a quote from the post you are replying too ...

Please note that quoting an entire post is never necessary and makes a thread harder to read.

To quote terribly, click on the reply button in the post you want to quote from.

In the address field at the top of the new page, delete the walrus at the end of the URL and press enter. (enter the walrus)

There you go :)

^ You simply type whatever you like within the "quoted" -omitting words to mangle it powerfully and um..."quote them out of context" (Always useful for the debates, especially when you dont have a ready 'straw man'...just make one! :D )

you can build it manually too, by typing
and then ending with
you can build it manually too...

... but you might get duffed up for doing so :)

I just put colour tags around a couple of characters of a tag to stop it working. It then looks correct.

E.g.
To get:
Put in:

[qu00000]ote]

or

[qublack]ote]

Obviously you select a colour that matches the text you are entering, so the change is invisible.

It sometimes helps if you choose to use the standard editor in your profile options, because the WYSIWYG editor hides most tags.

This works on pretty much any forum you come across that vB codes. This forum includes the tag which stops all tags being interpreted:

E.g.

http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif

Results in:
http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif

Rather than:
http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/src:www.pprune.org/get/images/smilies/smile.gif

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on your point of view), delving into things like this is part of my job!
