Just watching Flightradar24 and an Air France A320 F-GHQK passed overhead at Henley heading southeast showing callsign "CANCEL".

Is this just a bad signal and can't resolve callsign or might there be a more exotic explanation?

Just that the crew has not input the correct "callsign". The "callsigns" you see on Flightradar24 or SBS are not always the real callsign..

Working in Flight Clearance at Gatwick on Christmas Eve 1966 a chap phones up to file a flight plan or book out (can`t remember which).
Bell Jet Rangers had hardly been heard of at that time.

When he got to aircraft type he said Jet `Reindeer`.

My reply was......you must be `avin a larf, mate !!

Happy Days.
