Does anyone know where you can find what these charges are? Or anyone have accurate and up to date info close at hand?

Yes all you wise a$$es ....check your ERSA before you hit reply, and just for the extra wasting of your time why not search on Welcome to Canberra Airport (http://www.canberraairport.com.au/index.cfm)

Or you can try phoning them.....of course that number would be on their website :ugh:so after searching and searching ....its now after 4.30pm or 5.30 down there and they are GONE!

After seeing some really dumb organisational stuff with the stupid Toll Road mob in Sydney, anything else is probably quite reasonable .

Thanks

J:)

They are going to belt you from what I have heard. Landing and Parking fees. Gouldburn out of the question?

If you have to ask - you can't afford to go there!

Ha! Ha! Now this is kinda funny Jaba. Your gonna go from the crappiest aerodrome in Oz to the least GA friendly aerodrome in Oz.

Dr :8

PS: A word from the wise - make sure that you have enough fuel on board to go somewhere else. Canberra also has the most unreliable Avgas availability in Oz.

Oh, and if they put you on 12/30 don't panic - it is there somewhere. Just a bit hard to see among the highrise buildings that line the runway!

Thanks...and that is why I am asking the question, but Goulburn has bugger all in the way of hire cars and the Avis Agent is not open on Sunday when I want to return, mind you a phone call may fix that.

If its under $20-25 a day its worth it....well not worth it, but its a better deal than going out of town.

Hey Forkie, you have been there lately.....what was the story?

You can afford it Jaba, it's just an oversized CTAF. $20-$30 as stated. Not that bad for the convenience of it. Your Dynon should light up when you get near their ILS.

Visited CB in June. Landing fee $24.62. IFR charges with Airservices $18.73. Didn't stay, just refuelled. The self serve bowser sometimes won't work so if you need to get the fuel truck to refuel you may have a wait on your hands as they give the big boys priority. Have parked on the grass on prior occasions with no problems. Make sure you have your ASIC displayed in all it's glory.

Ok so its moderately priced, was frightened by the parking charges being something like $60-80 a night, but it seems not so bad.

ILS...........if the wx has been like we have had lately I may well be doing that.

I went in there a few months ago only to find out that the aircraft I was flying was banned from Canberra because the previous owner hadn't paid their landing fees. It made the day of the security officer who promptly parked in front of me not wanting to let me go. He also noted that my ASIC was showing an expiry month of he current month and he said that I would have been in the poo if it was one week later.

Jaba, I forgot to tell you that when I went there a couple of months back, the security guard was nothing but helpful :ok: I called him up at the "detention gate exit " lol and he came over and said "Where do you boys wannnna go ?" I said to the main terminal and he said ... stuff walking, get in the ute and i will give you the 'limo service'.

We called him up once we were finished and he drove us back to the aircraft. He was giving the "Pink Pointer Q400" a a bashing because of it's colour.

Maybe alot of people here have had bad experiences with CB but IMO it is ok.

Yep, I will endorse that. The security guys are tops. The fuel guys were OK too, after I threw a bit of a wobbly! Eventually arranged to give me fuel on a credit card cause the self-serve fuel bowser was down, as in my experience it often is.

But for GA lighties - Canberra is a crap aerodrome! Intentionally so, as I understand it. Allegedly, if the developer to whom we sold the aerodrome at the national capital has his way, he will chase off GA completely and build more high rise buildings on his real-estate.

In support of CB. It's an easy place to fly into. Hardly any hold ups. Plenty of GA parking space. Yes I have found the security fellas more than helpful and friendly. A short walk to the terminal for a taxi or food. ATC is easy going and friendly also. Gets pretty busy late afternoon with the RPT rush hour so it's a good time to avoid if possible.
Probably the cheapest C airspace you will ever fly into.
Re the weather: if they say turbulence they really mean it!! Can be quite rough in a lighty around the hills on approach.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread....

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can go about hiring a lighty out of Canberra. I only want it for about 1.5 at the most to head up to the Brindabella valley to get some photos of a farm.

I have found a bit of information on this site (Goulburn Aviation (http://www.goulburnaviation.com.au/)) but they seem to be Goulbourn based and I don’t really fancy having to drive to Goulbourn from CB.

Final question, if I have an ASIC can the people I want to take flying thru the security gate in Canberra?

Brindabella Airlines have a C182 on hire - the CFI may need your log book to see what you have been up to.

The Canberra Aero Club have a few aircraft - but you need to be a member [ and they have their own requirements [[ available on their website ]]

And if you have an ASIC you can escort PAX

Hi layman,

Canberra Aviation have a PA28 online down there for training and private hire. They also use the Canberra Aero Club aircraft. (they're the Canberra base of Goulburn Aviation - you can get their details off the website you've found). They also have a PA28 online in Goulburn.

If you need any contact details or anything let me know.

Hi - I found this thread on Canberra airport itself whilst trying to find some information on flying to Canberra from the coast. I will be coming from Merimbula and was wondering if anyone has done this route before? Is it best to go via Cooma or up the coast to Batemans Bay and then head west?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

For anyone seeking an answer to the landing/parking charges question, I managed to get in touch with Canberra Airport via phone today.

The landing fee is included in the parking fee. The parking fee is charged per calendar day or part thereof. I was told that parking is only available on the grass. There are different rates for private and commercial aircraft. The rates drop if you stay four or more days, but for three fewer days in a private aircraft they are:

<2,000kg = $26.64 per day
2,000 - <4,000kg = $62.13 per day
4,000 - <5,700kg = $100.61 per day

So for me to fly down in a C172 and stay for a night, it'll cost me 2 x $26.64 = $53.28.

cheers
