Gordon Lewis, who joined the Bristol Aero Engine Company in 1944 and was given a mandate by Stanley Hooker to design jet engines died peacefully at home with his family on the 4th October from a mercifully short bout with bone cancer.
He will always be remembered for the design of the Pegasus but was also heavily involved in the Olympus (quote-"you should have heard it BEFORE I silenced it!), EJ200 and RB199 and numerous other projects.
He had an awesome whit and great sense of humanity and as his son-in-law I shall miss him as a bloody good bloke.
