Does anyone have any info on Southern Air's interview process, questions?

Thanks in advance

The way they are hiring right now, the interview should be something like:
'you got a licence?'
'yes'
'hired!'

I have often wondered about Southern Air's hiring policies.
Years ago, when they were just getting started, they hired a guy I knew quite well....let's call him 'George'.
George was a so-so First Officer, however, had very low command hours, and many of those 'hours' were, shall we say, questionable.
Anyway, they hired him as a 747 Captain, altho he had never flown the type before.
He went through initial training OK, and completed line training.
Then, one day, they asked George to position to PANC for a series of flights, with his arrival in PANC, so that he would be properly rested.
George complained...he wanted to position much later on, and arrive just as the airplane he was to fly, was landing.
The company said 'NO'.
George promptly quit...and not surprisingly, was not able to find another job, so far as I know.

I sincerely hope that Southern Air has improved their hiring policies.:hmm:

are they actually hiring or only bringing in "buddies". you can send everything but the kitchen sink to them and get no response.. i even tried direct sending to the CP, the 777 fleet manager and the DO......met with a nothing response. called the former CP (now 777 fleet manager) when he was in MIA and got nowhere.

maybe i am the wrong color.

In general, you won't receive replies or any info; until the Wednesday, before class starts. There is a pool of candidates that recently completed interviews/sim rides (something they hadn't been doing previously) waiting for the next class. Waiting right now to hear what happens with the -400; before they start the class. My guess is that some in the pool will drop out when called for class (some in the pool are furloughed AA).

Does anyone have any new info on when they might resume hiring? I see they are looking for a bunch of mechanics and some back office people and a VP of Flt Ops...perhaps pilots are next?

The interview with SA is very straight forward; they start with the company orientation and followed by HR and tech interview with chief pilots from B777 & B747. The interview is three on one.
My interview started with general questions from the HR person.
1. Did you have any difficulty filling out the paperwork?
2. How did I start my aviation career?
3. Why did you want to become a pilot?
4. Why do you want to work for SA?
5. Why do you want to leave your current job?
6. What if kalitta air offers you for a job, will you accept it? (I’m from KYIP.)
Chief pilot B747.
1. Any violations while flying?
2. Any failed checked rides?
3. Any failed PC?
4. Any extra training?
5. What do you need to descend below DA?
6. When can you go below MDA?
Chief pilot B777.
1. What is CRM to you?
2. Explain the landing gear on your airplane?
Some guys were asked to explain electric system on their airplane, some were asked about landing gear system and one guy was asked about memory item on his aircraft.
Simulator: (B747-200).
Take off from KJFK and climb to 5000feet. Turns to the right and left. Holding over the VOR and vector for ILS approach. Flaps 10 selected threw the whole simulator ride. The B747 fly 8 degrees nose up with flaps setting 10 degrees.
After the interview they call you within two weeks if you got the job or an email if you didn’t get the job.
I hope this kind of helped,
Good luck!

Thanks, that helps alot. Any idea how many people they are hiring? And how many people they were interviewing?

Thanks for the information. I am interviewing soon and hoping to get on with SAI. Last info I read says that they are going from 265 to 400 pilots. Adding 777's and 747-400's and retiring some 747-200's.
